Proposition 19 = FAIL.

Contributor: Blinker Blinker
Once again, a slew of "I'm gonna vote for pot!" youngsters apparently didn't follow through and CA's Prop 19 measure failed at the polls.

Maybe everyone got stoned and forgot to vote?

So how do you guys feel about Prop 19? I'm not a CA citizen but I would have voted in favor of it. Anyone here from CA feel like talking about it?

I'm from california. I smoke herb. The thing is pot is so common place here that alot of people already make a living selling it and growing it. When it became legal to get a medical card alot of dealers lost customers. And you can get a medical card no problem at all as long as your willing to spend the $100 to get one. And a good amount of pot smokers don't want it to get out of hand if the state gets involved, cause surely they will tax the shit out of it and the prices would be sky high. I'd say among smokers there's was a pretty even split.

A law was just passed recently that made it totally safe to be a smoker, maybe not a dealer considering the quantity you sell and certainly not a grower but those guys already know the risks they face. The law that passed states you can get caught with an ounce of weed on you and it's only a ticket. If your just a smoker and you have more than a ziplock on you, you got problems. In San Francisco it's not uncommon for people to smoke on the street, in the park or smoking areas at certain bars even.

I'm not from Cali, but I believe marijuana should be legalized. I'm not surprised the prop failed, though. Fear and hate often wins, unfortunately.

I'm currently living in CA (but not voting here), but had I changed my voting residence I would have voted against prop 19. I honestly don't want to live anywhere where marijuana is even remotely legalized. I find the smell disgusting and it gives me terrible headaches. I'd sooner move somewhere else.

I'm glad you posted this, Blinker! I don't live in CA either, but I was very disappointed that Pro 19 didn't pass. It is encouraging, however, that it was a very small margin (56% opposed, 44% in favor) that it lost by, so maybe not all hope is lost.

I definitely would have voted Yes, obviously.. and I think if it were a vote in a liberal state that didn't already pretty much openly use marijuana, it may have actually passed. My boyfriend said he read an article this morning that basically said a lot of the pro- marijuana people didn't vote because they didn't think it would really change much.. a lot of them can smoke marijuana practically in front of the cops, so it doesn't matter to them.

Here's an article from the LA Times that discussed how much the price of pot would decrease.. imagine paying $38 an OUNCE!

Oh well, hopefully the fact that it was on the ballot at all, and it didn't lose by a landslide, will prompt the rest of the country to start considering legalization!

$38 an ounce is actually a pretty good price. That's a lot of marijuana.

Drug related crime would greatly decrease, so I'm for legalization.

I do live in California and voted yes on prop 19. I'm so disappointed that it didn't pass. But an article in the paper said that backers of it were pleased that the vote was as close as it was.

Its not a question of if pot will be legalized but when.

Anyone who opposes it should watch The Union, a well-made documentary about the history of marijuana and hemp in the US.

Is anyone surprised? Conservatives didn't want it passed, the people who GROW pot didn't want it passed, only college and high school kids who didn't want to get written up for smoking in the dorms wanted to vote yes on it. I mean hell, if you're an adult smoking weed anywhere here, no one cares, not even the cops. It's decriminalized across the state, as the first commenter said. Plus it's cheap in the dispensaries.

Sucks for the budget though, they could've gotten so much money.
