Questioning Queer?

Contributor: Cherrylane Cherrylane
So today I received an interested email from the LGBTQ resource office at my university gave information about an upcoming visit by the Trevor Project. In the email I noticed something I've never seen before on both the picture of the flyer for the Trevor Project and in the email body itself. Instead of "queer," they used the word "questioning" to represent the 'Q' in LGBTQ.

Has anyone heard it before? Is this new? What's the motivation behind the different words? I'm a wee bit baffled and Dan Savage has never brought it up before!

I've heard it before, I think it might have actually been the older/alternative version. It is/was done that way for people who aren't out of the closet, even to themselves, but are curious, so that they feel welcome.

I've heard it as "Questioning" before.

To GravyCakes - "Questioning" is something much more broad than bi-curious. Bi-curious means being interested in experimenting with men and women, while the word "Questioning" suggests a sense of being unsure or confused - it can relate to sexual orientation, gender identity, or perhaps sexuality in general.
