Red Shaving Bumpies

Contributor: Rin (aka Nire) Rin (aka Nire)
Okay, getting a little fed up with something. I'd like to start keeping my pubic area partly shaved, but it seems like I always end up with a ton of red shaving pimples and ingrown hairs every time I do it. It's annoying and painful, but I'm really hoping to find a way to prevent them (or at least get rid of them quickly) because I like the way I look shaved.

Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Use a good shaving cream and I recommend one of these sprays
Coochy
or
Simply Sensual

in conjunction with this aftershave powder.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not very used to shaving creams (the only one I've ever used is Skintimate), since I usually shave my legs with shower gel and my pits without anything. Any suggestions for shaving cream?

Make sure to keep your razor sharp and clean. Little strokes with rinsing after every stroke.

I'm terrible....super dull razor, long strokes with minimal rinsing....and I WONDER why I have razor burn. Time to buy a new razor and take my time And I'm definitely checking out the products you guys suggested!

Sharp, clean razor: check. Frequent rinsing: check. Little strokes: ... need to work on that. I'm so used to using long strokes on my legs that I forget little strokes are better for the skin. Thanks for the tip!

Incidentally, has anyone found a particular type or brand of razor to be more or less effective? I use a 5-blade Venus Embrace most of the time, though sometimes 2-blade disposables get used if I haven't gone blade shopping in a while. Both yield about the same results, though the Venus is less irritating.

Only use disposables for maximum of 2 weeks before disposing of the blades. Use any longer than that and you're basically asking for trouble

Electric razors don't give as close of a shave as straight edge razors, but they are safer and yield a lot less bumps and nicks. Always make sure your skin is clean, and hair is soft (preferably conditioned) before shaving to minimize the tug and pull. Minimum number of passes too, the more passes the more chance of nicks/cuts/bumps. Use pre-shave oil to lather, then shaving cream during shave. Make sure to keep your skin moisturized after the shave.
