The Savannah is a hybrid between a Serval (an African wild cat) and a domestic house cat (the first was a cross with a Siamese). Being a hybrid and half wild they are sometimes seen as controversial. (even after a few generations of domestic interbreeding)

There are laws prohibiting ownership in Hawaii, Massachusetts, and Georgia and also laws restricting it in New York...

Australia banned Savannahs from being imported...

Does anyone own one of these beautiful cats?

I would love to have one.

I think they are gorgeous but I also think that the exoticness of these cats is also harmful to wild servals. The more desired an animal is, the more it will be targeted by poachers.
Since servals are not tame, there is also the problem of genes and temperament coming through that you would not desire in a house cat. The same thing happens with dog/wolf hybrids.

i think they're cool, but i live in georgia. although, sometimes, we thing our cat Wilson is part savannah b/c of his meow.

Supposedly you can own one legally in the texas hill country. I'd love to have one, personally but I'd need the space for it.
