Sex Offender Registry....

Contributor: jmex83 jmex83
me and my wife were looking through the sex offender registry (after hearing about an incident recently) and was curious about what the "map" looked like around us. We were shocked by just how many were in our neighborhood! we also live right next to a school! which is even more disturbing. we got to talking about this subject and she brought up a really good point. not everyone on that list was charged with "forceful" rape/molestation etc. Some instances were because they were simply a year or two over the limit and they were dating someone that was just under it. (This was a situation that happened with one of our family friends-he was 19, she was 16.) Not that big of an age difference, but because of the law of ages, it was illegal. Parents found out and he got slapped with the RSO list.

So, I was wondering...what are your thoughts about this? Do you think that its fair to have those "Offenders" that simply go slightly outside the age range on that list? Or do you think it should be strictly for those that are serious offenders and dangerous criminals?

I get a lot of these cards in my mail box, when someone moves in the area. I take a look at them and some of them are minor offenses. It seems this age thing difference is a lot of the problem lately. If it was really bad then I would want to know. I like that they give us the info, but I do keep a look out. I think it should be for serious offenders and dangerous criminals. The reason I say this is because these little hoochie mama girls and fast ass boys be lying about their damn age these days. So when their family finds out they want to pin it on the guy and get them in trouble. If they were checking their kids to see what they do on a daily basis and who they talk too they would not have to worry about this problem. Also it don't help that these young girls look like they are older women and of age. Sorry I am ranting but I have been through it and seen it first hand with my nieces and my friends kids and half of them are young with kids right now.

See, i wish they would do that for us. we never get anything in the mail stating that anyone in the area is on that list or has an offense on their record. it would be really nice to know! my wife and i decided that we will be looking at this a little more closely before we make our next move to our own place. we rent right now, and at the time it was the only thing that we could afford. so we took it. when we looked at our "map", it says there is about 15 of them that live within a 1 mile radius! i was stunned.

i agree with you that there is a lot of deceiving going on when it comes to the lying about the age. There is also a lot of folks that do not watch their kids in this area. i often see groups of kids walking down the road just loitering and causing racket. its ridiculous. i agree, these girls these days do not look their age, too much make up and what is up with the mini skirts and hoochie clothing? we have two daughters, so its something that we really have to stay on top of as far as telling her what is and isn't appropriate.

Here in Columbus Ohio they do that. I know my first apartment I got when I moved into they started sending me them. Then when I moved to where I am now they continued to send me them to my new address. So far here I have only got two, my other address I used to get them a lot. I could not wait to move out of there.

Yes I have a baby girl right now, and I don't have to worry about anything yet but when it is that time. I will be all over her and if not her brother will be he is the oldest and already protecting of her. It is ridiculous these days how some of these teenagers act. Makes you wonder where the parents are at. I know you work and all but there should be some kind of watching of the kids.

Maybe there is some way you can find out if they send out cards to you where you live. As for you checking the map and finding 15 in the area you are in now. I would do some more research and see why. Also keep a close eyes on your girls. Make sure they know what to do if some ass approaches them. If they have cells make sure you and your wife and the cops are on speed dial.

I'm against the current incarnation of the SOR. It's too vague and doesn't give accurate representations to the people.

Did you know that if you get caught urinating in public (ewww), you could end up with your name on a list? Heck, if you come from the post office with a package that has a dildo in it and get pulled over in front of a school, it's possible to get your name on the list too?

Honestly, I wouldn't stress too much about it.
