Do you have any sleep disturbances or disorders?

Contributor: CoffeeCup CoffeeCup
Everyone has issues with sleep every once in awhile. Jet lag, shift work disorder or just the occasional bouts of insomnia.

But some people experience more severe problems with sleep. Some happen independently, while others are in relation to other medical conditions.

My mother says I have been a constant insomniac since the day I was born.

Anyone else have sleep disorders?

Crap. I put that I'm an average sleeper because for the most part I have no trouble sleeping, but should have also put "other" since I do occasionally get bouts of sleep paralysis, especially in warm weather.

If you don't know, sleep paralysis is basically when you wake up, and are (usually) aware of being awake and your surroundings, but you are unable to move for a few minutes. Often hallucinations and a feeling of danger are involved. It's not fun. I've heard it can also happen when you're falling asleep, but I've only ever experienced the waking-up version.

I suffer from insomnia and am also a light sleeper, so once I'm woken up, I cannot get back to sleep. Totally blows.

I have insomnia since I'm 4 or 5. I also have nightmares so often I learned to find them pleasent(hey, free horror movie, cinema places aren't cheap these days and it's a 3d surrounding experience too).

Also, fibromyalgia. Pain. Restless legs. Stress. Overthinking scumbag brain. :/ Yeah. I don't sleep much. But there's pills for that, aren't there?

I haven't been diagnosed with apnea but I've been waking up gasping for air lately. I've also been having dreams that I can't breathe, which I'm assuming is because I'm not breathing while I'm sleeping.

I haven not been diagnosed with anything, but I very well could have night terrors, I believe. They've not been as bad as of late. I won't officially claim it thought because I've never had it checked out.

I fall asleep extremely hard mostly, and even when I happen to wake up it often happens that I can't fall back asleep for a long time... It's a friggin curse, because I lose much more hours of the day just to get well-rested enough, whereas I could use all that time for other things... ~sighs and growls

I don't, thank god, since those types of disorders often have a hereditary link and my mother is a chronic insomniac who grinds her teeth, used to sleep walk as a child, and now as an adult has frequent night terrors.

I will occasionally stop breathing and wake myself up, but it only happens when I've fallen asleep in an odd position, so it's not apnea.

I don't have any sleep disorders, my only problem is staying up LATE; I don't go to bed until 4:30 to 5 a.m....a bad habit that's sticking with me!

My hubby and I both suffer from RLS--imagine life in our bed after we are asleep, lol! I suffer from insomnia, vivid dreaming (have to finish the dream before I can completely wake up). Night sweats-since childhood. Night fears/nightmares-since car wreck, can't even remember the accident but maybe my subconcious or body does.

I don't have chronic insomnia as far as I know, but I have problems falling asleep pretty much every time I have to sleep. I recall how, as a child, I'd lie and wait, staring at the ceiling, since it just didn't come to me naturally... meh!

I sometimes I have issues falling asleep, and I am a very light sleeper, but I don't consider those sleep disorders.

I don't really have any major sleep issues. I sometimes have trouble falling asleep but that's about it for me.

I have night terrors. Many times I just wake up screaming for no reason. Then go back to sleep. For those who don't know, night terrors are when the fight-or-flight response is randomly activated during sleep. No nightmares are involved.

One time when my sister and I shared a bedroom (late teens, I think?), we had beds on the opposite side of the room. I woke up and cleared the entire room in one bound and landed in her bed screaming, huddled behind her. She tried to calm me down, but my mom came in and growled, "Augh, shut up!" Hahaha. My sister scolded my mom. Eventually I stopped screaming and crawled back into bed, and went back to sleep -- I probably fall asleep easier after such events than the people I wake up by screaming.

I've only had a couple in the past few years, luckily. The one time I remember most recently I woke up my SO and he comforted me a bit and then I went back to sleep. No leaping out of bed that time.

I also probably have sleep apnea, but it's mild enough that it doesn't affect me if I'm not sleeping on my back.

I occasionally have sleep paralysis, which isn't listed on the poll, which is when your mind wakes up but your body hasn't turned off the paralytic mechanisms that keep you from acting out your dreams. That's pretty scary. *lol*

Aaaand, I also have some intermittent insomnia. Oh, and I definitely grind my teeth.

I put other because I haven't been diagnosed with anything (not that I could considering I hate going to any sort of doctor) but I'm a very light sleeper and don't sleep very long. I go to sleep around 1 or 2 a.m. and wake up around 8 a.m. ; sometimes earlier than this around 5:30 a.m. and I tend to wake up ever hour or so throughout the night. Sometimes I can't sleep at all and have to meditate or mentally / physically exhaust myself

I'm a light sleeper and I really can't function well unless I get 9 hours. I used to have horrible insomnia but I don't anymore. I might have DSPS, but if I do it's not severe.

Nothing particularly medical, but I just tend to sleep poorly and feel terrible in the mornings at all times.

I'm generally a really good sleeper and don't have serious issues, but I do sleep-talk, fairly frequently in fact. Usually the conversations are pretty random (from what my partner/others have told me), but I can actually talk back and forth with people who may or may not realize I'm asleep.

I have sleep-walked a few times in the past but it's definitely been rare.

I think I have restless leg syndrome, but it's not serious. Once in a while, during the nights I feel like I have to move my leg constantly or it itches.

Shambling around and eating brains? HA! sorry...

I get night terrors and have been accused of "Combat Acoustics" (a.k.a. snoring). I've even woken myself up snoring.

I have a terrible time sleeping, I work midnight to 8 am so I sleep during the day for the most part and I'm a really light sleeper, so everything wakes me up; the neighbor's nosing dogs, if a motorcycle drives by, door to door salespeople, kids out riding their bikes laughing and giggling. Summer is the worst with all the warm weather, bbqs, kids out playing because they aren't in school, people mowing their lawns... I really like gray rainy days, those are about the only days I really sleep well, people are not out making noise and the rain drowns out all the other noise.
