So...if Armageddon really were at hand, and the world was about to go "poof"........

Would you be one to sign up and leave for another planet or a life aboard a space vehicle or would you simply want to end your family line on good old planet earth?

What factors would influence your decision?

If the "ark" ship were only 100 couples, would you hesitate, verses it being 1000, or 10,000 couples? Would you go if you knew there was a set destination a few years or decades away? What if it was a "multi-generational" ship, where you knew that YOU would never see the "new world" but your great, great grandchildren might? Would it be worth the chance?

This is a real thought question.

Personally, if the world were to end, I'd be fine with it for the most part. I'd be a little worried about how it would happen, and I would wonder how it might feel to not exist if that is how it would be, but I'd accept it.

I wouldn't be able to contribute to anything on the escape colony, and I don't plan to procreate, so I would not even have descendants to see the new world. I'd stay behind instead of waste resources.

I'd be denied passage on the ark - my tubes are tied, therefore I cannot contribute to the surviving gene pool. Consequence: I'll be waiting for the tidal wave with a bottle of absinthe. It's okay, although it would figure that the world would end the day after I finally graduated college.

What the hey, it'd be an adventure. I've always wanted to go to space. Downside is that I'd have to pack

I am another one who'd be denied passage on an ark, assuming they would be picking specimens with the best genes.

Sadly the problem with that logic is that it takes diversity out of the gene pool, and that genetic diversity is what makes an organism able to adapt to cataclysmic change.

As far as attachment to the planet goes, I don't particularly care where I am so much as who I am with. I am not interested in going anywhere if I have to leave people behind.

I would just sit on my front porch, load a bowl, and kiss this wonderfull dream goodbye. Nothing much you can do. All I need now is the abilty to smoke weed, a bowl, and of course someone to sell some to me. Ya know what, this plan sucks balls! I'll build my own damn ark out of tires and duct tape! I don't need no fancy "ark"!

Well that would certainly suck if they only took couples. Probably hetero ones, too, so even if I got a gf I wouldn't be able to go. I guess I wouldn't really have the choice to get on it anyway so I'd just sit there and be pissed off.

I'd kiss it all goodbye. I'm not afraid of humanity's demise.

I'm not afraid of humanity's demise but space travel sounds so exciting to me! I'd love to go exploring! Even though my partner and I can't propagate the species.

I think I'd go on a trip to space, but I would feel bad about leaving the rest of my family behind.

I'd off myself. I've never really had to give any thought to this question because I've always known, if something were to happen, I would just do away with myself. My husband agrees.

It would have to be last minute, and very dire for us to do that though.

In this circumstance, I just wouldn't want to chance going somewhere else, only to find that there's no where to go, or an accident happen.
