spin-off poll; are you happy shopping off the rack anywhere?

Contributor: BluePixi BluePixi
Looking at Missmandy27's poll about the walk-in D cup and above shop as well as several threads about lingerie and body sized got me wondering how many people find clothes that really fit well without having to go to a specialty store?

I am a petite and even most petite clothing big enough to go around me is still too long in the arms and legs and so boxy that my figure is pretty much obscured. I have quite the collection of empire waist juniors sundresses because they usually fit. The kicker is that most of them are knee length on me but were intended to be minis or tunic length.

Yeah, shopping off the rack is an *adventure* most of the time. A tiring one, no less. But I do get lucky some of the time.

Yeah I think part of it is getting lucky. But most of the time I just wear t-shirts so its not hard to find.

I can get good fitting clothes, though some pieces depend on the store. I am 5'8", so I am not super tall, yet I have a hard time sometimes finding jeans that will fit me right height-wise. Some of them are way too short, even if I look at the tall lengths. There is a couple of stores, though, that I am able to easily find jeans that fit right. Other than that, I can very easily find clothes that fit well.

I can *sometimes* find things that fit ok in Juniors departments, and always find things that fit in the kid's departments, but the trick is finding something without glittery cartoon characters and such on them.

I have a hard time with pants because I am so long. My arms are REALLY long also but i usually just end up wearing 3/4 or short sleeves anyways.

I usually find clothes pretty easily unless I need something longsleeved. I have disproportinately long arms, I am 5'7 but I have the arm length of someone who is 5'10 or 5'11. I tend to wear short and 3/4 length sleeves so it doesn't look as strange.

Long legs are a pain too - everything looks like "high waters"... unless you wear boots a lot

I'm plus sized so I usually shop at stores geared toward plus sized women. My biggest issues are finding bras (44DDD) and pants never seem to be the right length. Petites are too short and average length is often too long. I'm 5'7. I thought that was a little above average? Maybe I just have short legs. *shrug*

I don't have a problem finding things that fit, but I have a problem finding things that fit *well*. I can almost never find dresses because I'm a 12/14 on the bottom and large D on top, so only half of a dress fits well. Pants and jeans can be tough because I'm 5'11", so finding anything long enough is a struggle.

I have gotten pretty handy with a sewing machine to make things fit better.

Swimsuits are an absolute nightmare. After a nasty bout of the flu last year, I finally felt like I could wear a bikini for the first time since like 2nd grade, but NONE that I found offered support, and most of them squished my boobs pancake flat. There is NO way I can wear a one-piece, because due to my height/long torso, the top of the suit comes up to about my nipples. Great for being the most popular girl on the beach, I'm sure, but I'll pass. Thank goodness for tankinis!

Clothes can be an interesting beast for ANYONE, whether you're short or tall, male or female, big or small. Jeans and pants tend to be very hit-or-miss for me. I'm relatively tall (5'6"), but have a long torso and short legs. If pants are offered in "short, regular, and long" lengths, the short ones are always much too short, while the regulars are too long. I've gotten used to just cuffing my pants or tucking them into boots, which is really convenient around this time of year.

Also, larger department stores often don't carry my size in the women's department. I have a very small frame, and many a time I've gone into a store and found that the sizes only go down to a small (likely in the 4/6 range), which is too large. I have better luck in the juniors' department, but I feel like a lot of their styles are too young for me. I usually prefer to shop in smaller stores.

I can sew a bit, so I can fix things if they dont fit just right. But sometimes I need to take to a seamstress to have them taken in that way. I'm tall with a long torso, but shorter legs, so I need longer shirts and normal to short pants.

AGH! Me too! There's not much I hate more than a shirt that looks good but the sleeves are too flippin' short!

I have a place that I can go and reliably find clothes to fit. Unfortunately that place is the Gap so I can't afford to buy very often!

My figure fluctuates a bit now that I am trying to get back down to my pre baby weight, but I can usually find things if I dig good enough. My problem is always that I am a cheap skate and I do not like to spend ~30$ on one thing. I much prefer getting 3 or 4 things out of Old Navy's clearance section instead of a single pair of jeans.

I do like getting creative, however, and will venture off into different areas of whatever store I am at to look for something different.

I voted one store but then i also voted even that not easy. I did so because even tho I can find most of my clothes from there I still have to try on a bunch before I can find something that fits really nicely. Im plus sized but my waist is small making pants a hard fit. I dont have much of a stomach but the boobs are huge and I have a swimmers back so things tend not to fit well across those areas

I usually find things that fit very well except for jeans and jean shorts. I've never found jeans/jean shorts that EVER fit except for hollister's and I hate how they over price such shit. Sorry to be so harsh, but seriously! They're clothes fall apart! I have yet to find a swim suit that fits. That is my current journey and I'm not finding much luck. Lol

I'm petite. Wear a size 0 and often have to buy in the kids section and that tends to throw things off! lol Kid's clothing is not always suiting. I find good things at stores like TJ maxx. I'm a dress kind of girl and I'm a cheapie so it can be hard to find cute dresses that aren't really long or too big because I'm short. I'm in the process of taking in and making a skirt shorter that I've had and loves for years, but it's huge and it's one of those school girl type, but it's not an actual school girl skirt just has that style and the ruffle part hangs so far down. I'm in the middle of sewing it smaller and shorter now and am excited to finally get to wear it. I hate when I find super cute clothes that don't fit right.

I usually can find clothes that fit at any store. And that's kind of a new development. When I was younger finding shoes and clothes that fit seemed to be a bigger issue. I don't know if this was a teen angst thing, if I was trying to shop at places meant for mini little teen girls, or if my figure is just easier to fit now that I have a womanly shape. It surprises and charms me that I can find clothes and shoes these days, because it was really a pain in my tuchus for a long time. (Plus it made me feel like a mammoth not being able to find clothes big enough.)

I often shop at Winner's or little shops here and there... consignment is always great. In fact vintage stores have always been a friend of mine because historically a woman of size 14 was utterly average and clothing manufacturers made clothes to compliment and emphasize my kind of figure.

Good luck to all y'all who have troubles and remember, you're gorgeous!

When I was a teenager and young adult, I had a horrible time finding clothes that fit because I had a tiny waist, average hips and wide shoulders. However, in my late twenties, I gained about 20 pounds and suddenly I had no trouble finding clothes that fit.

i got a tiny frame so though i may find a size 0 or 1 it'll fit my body weird. bras are a nightmare of their own; good luck finding a perfect fitting bra for 31 inch bust. panties are better luck i kind of wish i had a tailor or i could walk around naked all the time
