I will text if I am at a light that JUST turned red, and I will scroll through songs to find one every now and then (usually in stop & go traffic anyway). But I know how distracting it is, so I never trust myself to type and drive at the same time... And I think I would rather it be illegal. If a police officer gave me a ticket for the stuff I do, I wouldn't complain. I think that adding such a huge distraction is a HUGE risk to you as well as other drivers.

Agh! No! Unless you're stuck in traffic that has come to a standstill or stuck at a light that stays red for a long time, then you shouldn't be texting.

I know I am bad to check messages at a red light but I always wait until I am at a stop before I try to return the text. I do mean stop as in at where I was going. I have precious cargo and I know other cars carry the same. I do my best to protect these little people I brought into this world, and being distracted while driving is detrimental to their safety.

I only do it at red lights. There is a law in this state against it, but cops don't even follow it >.<

It actually IS against the law to text/talk on a cell phone while driving here.

I don't think it's a good idea for anyone to do. It can wait, and it is not worth risking your life over.

I might read my texts when at a long red light but I would never text something while driving when my car is in motion or some place that I should really be paying attention. It actually is against the law where I live and for good reason. People die.

I never do it. I've seen people swerve all over the highway due to texting. Its not worth it.

I am such a careful driver my attention needs to be 100% on the road bcs people are so maniac while they drive and most the time your driving for others, driving with everyone around you in mind bcs they are mindless, that is what I mean by driving for others.

I could never text while driving, it would be too hard for me to do.

I'm guilty, but haven't had my license OR a cell phone for quite a while. They have passed a law against texting while driving since the last time I did it.

I'll admit I've done it a few times, but I only do it when I'm at a stoplight. I haven't done it in a very long time, though. The problem is that too many people do it while their car is moving.

I do it abit. It's nice to wait till a red light but I still will as long as I'm not on the freeway or in a busy intersection.

There is a big difference between something that is wrong because it is evil and wrong just because it is illegal.
If I have the capability to engage in several activities at the same time, also called divided attention, where is the evil? If I DO NOT have the capacity to properly and safely drive and text or drive and have a phone conversation or for that matter drive after having enjoyed an adult beverage, then if I do those things that is wrong. I suspect that many of us CAN engage in those activities and drive MORE safely than many others who cannot drive safely when that is the only thing that they are doing.
Try to remember there is a difference between wrong and illegal.

I think the issue is that people without that capacity do it anyway and put other lives in danger.

Of course you are absolutely correct. So because of those individuals who do not have the ability to use common sense our politicians attempt to legislate it. Without ANY success.

Malum in se (plural mala in se) Latin phrase meaning wrong or evil in itself.
Malum prohibitum (plural mala prohibita, literal translation: "wrong [as or because] prohibited") Latin phrase used in law to refer to conduct that constitutes an unlawful act only by virtue of statute.

Never. None. I don't want to risk it. I don't care what I'm doing or how many times I've driven a road, I will not use my phone. If a really important call comes in, my partner will answer it and hold it to my ear for me. Lol. I do think texting and driving should be illegal because people are not responsible enough to make wise decisions, therefore risking others lives as well as their own. Texting really is a serious thing while driving.

I also voted "only if it was an emergency" I can't really think of any emergency instance where I'd actually do it while driving, but I could understand it if it was a serious emergency, but then again I still say pull over and do it.

Over here, it's totally illegal to use your phone at all, unless you have a hands free headset for calls only.

Even if you're stopped on the side of the road, if your engine is still running and you're using the phone, you can be charged.

I live in the sticks on a road that has bugger all traffic, so years ago I did on the rare occasion, send a text. Still a damn stupid thing to do cause it doesn't take much for the car to head off to the side of the road even if your eyes are only diverted for a few seconds.

I do not text at all. But if I did, I would not do it while driving. Too dangerous.

What I've found that's pretty interesting is that most of the people who are defensive insistent on their ability to safely multi-task texting and driving are the ones more prone to being in accidents. I don't know what happened to the show but one summer there was a contest show about drivers, showing how people who thought they were the shitz behind the wheel were disasters waiting to happen. I might need to look that up again, actually...

I'm not saying it's impossible to drive and text and not cause a wreck (because there would be a hellova lot more wrecks if so) but that it's simply not worth it. It doesn't have to be the person texting that does something wrong like cross a line, run a light or stop sign, not signal, change lanes without checking, etc. It could another person as well and since a that texting driver wasn't paying attention either... Wham. Accident. Not worth it. And it seems a lot of people have died in accidents (some pedestrians) all caused by someone thinking a little message, 160 characters or less, was worth checking and sending that they couldn't wait till they weren't driving to do it.

I've been guilty of reading texts at red lights, but I would never respond to them. That is wayy too much focus taken away from driving

I don,t text and drive; it is vs the law here and obviously dangerous. It so annoys me when a driver in front of me is driving erratically and obviously texting.
