What are your Thanksgiving essentials besides the basics? (turkey, stuffing, mashes potatoes, cranberries...)

At my house we always have a bowl of black olives. I don't know why but we've had that every year since I was a kid. We also always make sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top, get those cheapie brown bread rolls in packs, and crackers with a can of cheese. We usually have some Christmas movie playing on tv in the background while we eat and talk. For dessert this year we're going to have a homemade strawberry cheesecake, pumpkin pie, and a homemade apple pie.

I usually do oyster dressing, green bean casserole(it is requested), fresh pineapple, candied yams, a bunch of appetizers, and many misc. dishes--depends on the amount of time til everything else is done. I go all out.

This is my first year making a Thanksgiving dinner for my family and I am so excited! Definitely doing the basics but I'd like to make a squash casserole and a few dips as appetizers.

I make the turkey a la "Alton Brown's turkey triangle" way. I found it on youtube and last year we had the best turkey we EVER had. I'm definitely going to do it again this year. =]

I just spent all night cleaning out the fridge. It's all empty and ready for grocery shopping! Yay!

In addition to the typical turkey dinner, I almost always make a can of Pillsbury orange sweet rolls for breakfast on Thanksgiving. I make them on Christmas morning too. It's so silly, because I love them and the store always has them, but I only ever make them on those two days.

We always have a dish of black and green olives as well! My favorite dish has got to be mashed turnip though. I'll also be making a hazelnut pumpkin cheesecake
