The Museum of Sex

Contributor: Tori Rebel Tori Rebel
I was at the Museum of Sex in NY last week.

Overall, I liked it. I probably could have lived without the exhibit on the sex lives of animals - seeing a turtle use a kickball to masturbate was not my cup of tea, and I may never get the phrase 'homoxexual necrophiliac mallard ducks' out of my head. But the "Rubbers" exhibit was cool, the paperwork distributed to soldiers from the war department on how not to contract STD's and what to do if you did was interesting, and the exhibit featuring sex and the moving image was awesome - even the way it was laid out with old black and white films being projected on large raised platforms on the floor was very cool. It was worth the admission price, and in a year when the exhibits have changed, I'll probably go again.

Has anyone else here been there? What did you think? If you were local, would you go?

I know Montana had a Museum of Prostitution (including an exhibit of old west sex toys and such), but I never got a chance to go when I lived up there.

The NY one sounds quite interesting, if a little disturbing concerning the animal part.

See? Now I have a reason to go to Montana...

It really was very cool and the animal part was well-intended, and interesting, it just comes off a little strange for those that don't have any interest in animal science. I did however learn that bottle nosed dolphins (in addition to turtles) masturbate, and will use the toys the trainers give them for tricks to do so. Might come in handy if I'm ever on some perverse form of Jeopardy...

Wow, the Museum of Sex sounds awesome to be honest! I love museums and it sounds like it'd be fun That'll be on my list of places to go someday with Synthetik Same possibly with the Museum of Prostitution.

Yeah, the animal part though from the Museum of Sex does sound kind of interesting, but it would be a little awkward learning about how the animals, um, "spend their alone time" and about their sex lives. *Alot* more awkward than learning about human sexuality, by all means.

I've been there! Along with the whole staff from Eden for the April Flores Love Toy Show last year. It was so much work, but so much fun.... and there are photos.

I hope you get to go sometime, it's a blast...I think I take some of it for granted sometimes because I've been "bridge & tunnel" - and I hate that expression - my whole life and spend a lot of time there. On Thursday I was showing around some friends from Texas though and actually did things like look up at the buildings and go in the touristy places in times square that I never did before.

Thanks for the pics, Laurel! April is a goddess

I've seen the Bodies exhibit, and they have the entire nervous system of a man and woman suspended in a plastic case and it amazed me to see how dense the nerve fibers were in the genitals. It was awesome! The Sex Museum sounds fun. My guy and I need to make a trip before our honeymoon to Amsterdam

Sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out next time I'm in the area.

As for the ducks, well, in my experience, ducks will jump anything. A dead mallard is actually a pretty tame target for a horny male duck, since it's actually the same species. Roosters, barn cats, goats, an old boot -- ducks just ain't that picky.

Yeah, I kinda got the idea that they're more of a 'love the one you're with' animal.

Even that's a bit optimistic. After close longterm observation of ducks, I decided that the existence of new ducks is a miracle, because I saw the males mate with everything within a mile -- except for the female ducks.

I've been and I really enjoyed it. The exhibits are always changing and I remember when I went there was an exhibit on porn throughout the decades that I found interesting. I liked the main exhibit (the permanent one) a lot as well. I would go again if I were closer to the area.
