The "rape culture"...

Contributor: DreamWolf DreamWolf
I understand why it is exciting when it comes to playing it, the female is excited that she is taken by the powerful male (or the other way, or two females or males, whichever), and the male is excited to take the female by his might...

But whenever I see rape itself in movies, or artwork, hear stories, it freaks the hell out of me, the only thing I can think of that it's sheer terror for the poor creature taken, makes me tremble and wanna cry, it totally terrifies me and I can't tell how sorry I feel even for fictional characters...

I also think that it is a natural thrill what is related to the topic, as a wrestling fun is similar, and of course ends up in playful, happy and satisfied mating...

Anyway, what are your thoughts on the topic?

Well, for one, I don't think rape, by definition, really ends up as "happy satisfied mating." There is some truth that it's "natural", in that males of many species often take advantage of females during courtship. However, humans have this thing called "free will", and we can learn to identify our behaviors and their causes and we can act to STOP THEM.

I don't think you're using the phrase right. You're talking about rape fantasies not rape culture, in which we live. The difference being, that someone always has an element of control. In the media, something portrayed as a rape is intended to show the lack of control as rape in real life would.

"Rape Culture" is the culture that glorifies and condones rape.

I don't really know what to say about it, it's kind of a huge topic, especially when combined with discussing rape fantasies which are a different thing.

But ... more
I like it in consensual play between two people but in movies and such I don't really care for it, I've known several women who had to deal with being raped in real life to enjoy it being portrayed in media.

Uh, rape culture and rape fantasies are two different things. Rape fantasies simulate rape, except there's an element of control from both parties.

Rape culture condones the act of rape, which though it is prevalent in American society, isn't really something that we encourage.

Pretty much just echoed everyone here but I hope this makes more sense to you.

Well, I refuse the whole "rape culture" too, there is a difference between dominant/submissive play and forcing your will on someone...
