On this date in 1889, James H. Bowen of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania received a U.S. Patent for his invention, “a new and useful improvement in devices for preventing or checking involuntary spermatic discharges”. The device would be placed on a sleeping man’s penis and attached to his pubic hair. As the penis became erect, the device would pull the pubic hair, awakening the man and preventing or checking a discharge. Source: SexPatentsTheBook.com
