The thought of a waterbed leaves me wanting.

I've seen discussions recently which revolved around the question of where would you like having sex. You were excluded from saying a bed. The responses were varied from tall grass, new mown lawn, the beach, and warm waters of a pond or ocean. The most common thread or answer was water. My own response was warm tropical waters along a deserted beach. So, this all of a sudden dredged up fond long ago memories of the waterbed. Back then we had store chains which sold every conceivable design. The one we owned had foam edges, and used standard fitted sheets. The water temperature was oh so comfortably warm, regulated by a thermostat. When you lay upon it you would float, enveloped by the water.

As to that post which asked, “Where would you like having sex?”. I would now have to say, it is the waterbed. The memory of how our bodies motions caused the water to mimic the pattern in an undulating wave rhythm. It was like once the rhythm was there, you were no longer exerting physical effort.

So, now I’m left wondering just what happened to the waterbed. Does anyone here know? Does anyone here even remember the age of waterbeds? Do you remember how warm they were in the winter, and how soothingly cool they were during hot summer nights when you could turn the water temp off? Does anyone remember the sex you had on one, or just the comfortable sleep it left you? Do you have any story’s to tell us of when you encountered a waterbed? The thought of a waterbed now leaves me wanting.

I have no idea why water beds were phased out, I loved mine and sometimes regret getting rid of it. The last time I had sex in a water bed was long long ago, and my boyfriend got stuck in it!

Mine had no baffles, and was a cali king size. Somehow my boyfriend got his leg wedged down between the wood frame and the mattress. Well, that's not where the story ends, he didn't tell me he was stuck (he was on top). His leg being wedged in there caused the wood frame to shift off the base enough that there was space to get his foot clear to the floor. We got done, and I rolled out from under him, got up and saw his foot stuck through the bed. I don't know why, but it was the funniest thing ever to me. I cracked up laughing at him, had tears rolling down my face. I had to stand on the bed and pull the mattress as much as I could so he could get his leg and foot back through.

I had a king-size waterbed in my early 20s. It was A LOT of fun. But when I broke up with the girlfriend who'd helped me pick it out, I sold it.

Dear lovexroads88,

I don't respond to many posts, but your story was so damn funny that it compelled me to tell you that it made me laugh out loud. I’m still chuckling at this moment. A great, great, funny story. Thank you for sharing it.

My parents had a water bed when I was growing up! I loved it but, man, when one of those things popped... it was terrible. Everyone rushing it to the bathroom and hurrying to dry the rest of the bed. Yikes.

I used my parents' old waterbed for a while when I was younger. They couldn't sleep on it anymore because their backs didn't like it; I assume that's why they went out of style.

Man, I hadn't thought about waterbeds in ages! My parents had one, and I loved sleeping in it. The rocking made me sleep so deeply, it was amazing!

I had a waterbed for years. I loved it in the winter time. You did not have to wait for the sheets to warm up after getting inside, it was already set at the temp you wanted.

I've never had a waterbed, but my parents did when I was much younger. I always liked it then, it was wonderful to fall asleep on waves of water. Lovely feeling. I'd be super happy if i could get my hands on a waterbed.

My Mom still uses one. I didn't realize they weren't available anymore. I prefer firm mattresses, but I was looking forward to having the option of a waterbed when I wanted one.

To many issues with punctures and leaks I would guess. And I can't imagine they are the best in terms of support.

I'm going to be in the minority here, but that's ok. 25+ years ago I had a long term girlfriend who owned a waterbed and I absolutely hated it. There was some good sex in it and some frustrating sex, but the amount of good sex couldn't overcome the horrible sleep I had when sleeping in her bed.

I had a waterbed for a good 20+ years and loved it. We changed to an air bed for adjust-ability. The H2O was fun while it lasted.

BTW - you can still buy lots of different varieties of waterbeds - just Google it - dah!

Agreed, I'm not a huge fan. The lack of support is inconvenient, as are the leaks

I've never slept, or had sex, on one. Seems like it would be hot to try, at least once.

My mom had a water bed when I was younger and I looooved it. They are so bad for your back though, since your spine bends to the water, unlike a traditional mattress which is far more supportive.

I still have a water bed and I don't mind it at all. The only problem we've had with it sex wise is that since it doesn't give much support some positions are a bit difficult. I do like not having to warm up the bed in the winter though.

I think it would be more fun for sex and lounging than actual sleeping.

I had a waterbed from the time I was 10 until I was 16. It was nice while it lasted, and I had some of my first sexual encounters in it. I much prefer sleeping in a traditional bed now, though.

lol! what a funny story. I remember waterbeds. it's been so long ago that I don't remember the sex. but I do remember how wonderful it felt lying on one. I wonder too why they disappeared. that was a huge mistake in the retail world, in my opinion.
