Webcam modeling?

SexyySarah SexyySarah
I've got a question for anyone that models or has an opinion. I'm a mom of two young children, and I am "thinking" about doing webcam modeling, but not sure it's the right thing to do being a mom. I'd have to do it at night, the only time hubby and I have "really". And I don't want to take away from that, but he is totally okay with me doing it and thinks it's cool that I want to. I'm just not sure if it would be good with kids. What does everyone else think?

If I were a mom, I wouldn't do it. I would not feel comfortable putting myself out there like that, knowing that I have little ones to protect. And I'm not talking about them awkwardly walking in during a webcam session. Even if you don't share any personal information (like your address, state, phone number, etc.), hackers can still locate you via the web. This may seem far-fetched, but it can and does happen to people. I would never, ever want to put my family (or myself) at risk because of my internet life.

Considering webcams don't put out anything to do with location, no. THey would have to find your exact location, which is near impossible unless you're running an isp out of your house, which you aren't. Webcaming puts out no more information then putting a picture of yourself on the internet, hell pictures put out more information. Iphones tag the pictures at the location they're snapped, if you have the geotagging on.

Don't listen to people like this, they have no idea what they're going on about.

My opinion is: Go ahead, just don't be surprised if the person paying for a show records it, screen shots it and then uploads it on to imagefap or similar sites.

Um... I really don't want to start anything, but I find your response kind of insulting ("people like this" and insinuating that I am clueless). I answered expressing my own opinion, which SexxySarah requested from all of us. My opinion is informed by my own knowledge and by my partner, who knows how to hack.

Yes, it is absolutely possible. Via direct connection it's very easy. Through a third party, it's more difficult but still possible. It's possible to find name (and sometimes location) through the IP address. How much info can be garnered will depend on how skilled the person on the other line is. There are many people out there that use the internet honestly and who mean no harm. However, there are also lots of people who do have bad intentions.

Five years ago, had someone asked me if I would webcam model, I would have said "heck no!". But it did wonders for my confidence and helped me define who I am sexually. I now wish I had started back when it became popular!

There are always risks involved with webcam modeling, however, in the almost 3 years of doing it part-time (less than 10 hours a week) and as a parent with my spouse's full support, I have not encountered any problems. I have my entire region blocked too. A good site will let you block your entire state or several areas if you like and will also let you block certain customers who you find are harassing or stalking you. Yes, they can keep coming back under new id's (unless the company has their IP addy banned), but once they show the same pattern, you just block them again. The one I work part-time has many parents on there, single moms too. I think no less of them. Sex sells, fetish sells. Some of the best cam models never even take their clothes off! (domination, princess worship).

It costs nothing to sign up to be a model, except for having a good computer, internet connection, and webcam. There's no schedule so you can't get fired for not showing up. If you don't like it after you try it, then stop, and you never have to do it again. The first time I tried it, I wasn't sure I could keep doing it, so I waited a couple months, then tried it again. I admit, at times, it can be really boring and you can get burned out. I just do it for pocket cash, thank goodness it's not my livelihood because it can be draining doing it 40+ hours a week from what I hear, especially when there's no traffic. I've been thankful for it though, so has my husband. It's helped pay bills when things were tight. You have to do what you can live with.

Let me start about by saying "people like this" is a reference to people spewing things they've read on the internet or seen on tv.

I'm not trying to start anything either, but I can tell you for a fact, your parter cannot hack. Hacking is a Myth started by movies in the nineties to scare people who use the internet. There are crackers, brute forcers, diggers and a few more I'm not inclined to go on about. People scream " I've been hacked" when they loose an account due to some one guessing their incredibly easy account password.

I'm gouing to guess that Sarah would be using skype, msn or other IM services, which have next to no security ( I know this because I've been able to get Passwords and emails off of msn's servers) they do not give away the location of some one. They can give you the location of the isp, which is what would happen if some one tried to find your IP. Your Ip address does not have your name attatched to it, and the only way to find your name is if they worked for the ISP, in which case they already know everything.

I'd also like to mention, Anyone smart or intelligent enough would could easily find out where you live without going through loops. The owner of this site as an example. He/She could have an easier time tracking you, due to you accessing the site.

The chances of some one targeting you for an attack are slimmer then getting struck by lightening, you're potentially scaring some one into an "E- hypochondria" state by sputtering your err'd information and 1990s propaganda.

I've never had anyone attempt to hack me or hunt me down, then again, I log in to a site that has its own platforms/software and it's pretty secure. Perhaps there is a greater risk if you cam independently using MSN, SKYPE, YIM ,and I personally wouldn't use those combined with some independent checkout method. Good sites take care of EVERYTHING for their performers, you just have to log in and maybe send a few emails and update your pictures.

Unless you tell customers where you are from, it's highly unlikely they are going to track you down. If they ask, you just say "NO, my fantasy world is limited to right here, right now". That shuts them up and they will usually move on. You just have to be smart and not tell anyone too much about the real you.

Well thank you ladies for all the responses, I did not mean for any drama to start, if I was to do it, I would use an actual site that maintains it. Not MSN, skype or anything like that, that's just not cool to me, as for the hacking thing, I wasn't too concerned about that, but it's something to always be concerned about no matter what kind of business you are in.

I'm just popping in to say that this thread is going well so far, and I hope more productive discussions come forth from this thread. Having said that, I realize that when opinions get laid out that sometimes a person's tone can be upsetting. The key here is to present our opinions respectfully and keep the dialogue flowing.

I've said before here that I would definitely give it a go if my S/O were ok with it - which he is not. If you're curious, give it a try - there's nothing that says you have to stick with it. There are at least a handful of girls on here who have done it or still do it and while some have experienced the pitfalls, there are also some who are able to make a decent part time income. Also, if I were to try it for myself, I would definitely choose one of the sites that allows you to block out zip codes, states, or regions - it highly narrows down the chances of anyone you know seeing you. Good luck with whatever you choose!

This whole conversation is making me interested in modeling as well. I'll need to ask my other if he's okay with people seeing me. He's okay with nude modeling but I wonder if this would be too much for him haha.

I'll be lurking around this board as long as it's active

Yeah, I've thought about doing nude modeling as well, but that would involve more money then I'd like to spend to get a website up and running. Cause I can't find anything to place my photos on for money like you can with webcams.

But if anyone has any info on this as well please feel free to elaborate!

I'm not a mom. I'm a single 22 year old going to college and supporting 4 "kids" I couldn't actually have kids back when I was engaged. It was one of the many reasons he broke up with me. Because I was sterile. I adopted 3 dogs and a cat to replace the fact that I couldn't have kids. So I'm not worried about kids or anything like that. I do need to support them however. So yeh, I work with MFC. They allow blocking out of specific states, which could be helpful. I haven't blocked anything for the aforementioned reasons. I'm not afraid. I'm a fierce woman-it was how my father raised me to be. So I don't worry about anyone breaking in or stalking me. My house is a fricken fortress. And between the crazy bitch (myself) and the 3 vicious dogs I've got, I'm not worried about men bothering me in the least. I've chased off more than one home invader by myself. My dog also has left 42 stitches in a potential rapist. So you can see why I feel like I have no reason to worry, but yeh I'll let you know how it goes definitely.

Since a lot of people are popping in on this thread that have some pertinent info on the topic, I'd like to add a little secondary question (I promise I'm not trying to hijack your thread Sarah ) - is there a niche in these companies for girls that aren't your typical 'model' body types? I'm borderline misses/plus being a size 16 - if my partner were to ever come around to the idea, or if I end up single at any point again and want to try this, is it like other forms of adult entertainment where there really is, so to say, a lid for every pot? Would it be worthwhile for a not-skinny girl to try?

I've got to think there's a niche for everyone. I know more than a couple guys who hate the emaciated look and love girls who are happy and confident in their bodies, no matter what size they are. I guess that doesn't really answer your question but I think you should go for it =)

I so want to do webcam modeling as I feel I would enjoy the venture. I get loads of attention at clubs (too much at times). My immediate concern is that I am beginning a career type job in September and don't want to mess things up, if found out. I know areas can be blocked but it only takes..... one.
Overall I would say, SexySarah, if you feel secure...go for it!!!
For me? I am still pondering...

Yes, their is a niche for everyone! The most important thing you can do it smile and be friendly, unless that doesn't fit the "character" you are playing for the viewer.

I will say that overall, female performers stay busier than the male ones. Women seldom pay to see other women webcam, it's usually men impersonating women that watch other men (sorry guys) and the kinkier the male performer, the better.

I have no shame in what I do. I realize it isn't always viewed positively in the eyes of many, but unless they have done it, then they don't know what it's like and shouldn't rush to judge it. Truth is though, many do and that's probably not going to change. So again, do what you can live with.

Unless someone exposes you or your job is one that is going to do some serious background checking, I don't think you have much to be afraid of career-wise, but it's certainly something you should seriously consider.

Let me say this. I am a mom. How is my 6 yr old going to know what I am doing? Hes not, because I will be doing it either when he is not home and at school, or at night when he is sleeping. If you are working through a site, the chances of someone finding you and what not I am sure are slim.

If your partner doesn't mind, I don't see why not.

People think just because we are moms that we can't do anything at all that would be remotely fun to us, or even on the wild side.

I am here to say that just because we are moms doesn't mean we can't do what we want as long as its not putting our child in harms way...

Theres my $0.02.
btw - I am looking into doing this, but just gotta figure out how I want to. (site, or on my own, etc).

What are you going to do when he does find out - are ready to explain it? Can deflect the torment he's likely to get from classmates? Just say'in - things are never as secure as you think.

It's very hard to guarantee privacy. It's all up to you whether or not you think you can handle explaining it to the kids if they ever find out.
