What is your relationship with college?

Contributor: Lithaewyn Lithaewyn
I randomly wondered this today. I know that a couple of our female members are graduating this year, and I became curious about everyone's relationship to college. The poll is anonymous because I know that it may be a personal subject for some, but feel free to share any thoughts regarding sex toy usage and college if you want.

I'm pretty content with the two jobs i have right now, so i don't think i would want to do any school at the moment. I've been thinking about taking an HTML and PHP class from a local college from over here though.

I was attending college and stayed until the end of my sophomore year but had to quit school because I was diagnosed with several autoimmune illnesses and they've been really debilitating ever since. If I could go back and finish up if I had the strength, I probably would.

Wow, that's awful. I hope that you can go back someday! It's not fair to give up the pursuit of dreams for bodily woes.

I'm currently attending college, although it's been frustrating me lately, and I hope to go on to grad school and become a professor.

I have about a semester left of University but I let myself get so far from who I am that I am taking a year off to live in Vancouver.

Graduated last year, but I'm planning to head back for a masters in the next couple of years, once I work for a little while and save up some money.

Graduated with a BBA and married four days later in 1991. Stuck in grad school for the last several years. I walked across the stage and officially graduated last May. Still doing final revisions on my thesis.. (And committee chair died too)

Keep working, and feel better.

I just started school (I actually have to register for summer classes this week), going for a Mechanical Engineering degree. I've discovered a love for cars. What's silly about that, is that if a guy had a really gorgeous car, I'd be more likely to stroke it than him. *snicker*

I'm happily wrapping up my first year at college! I've made some great friends and had a lot of good times, and I'm so happy to forget about my crappy time at high school. I may not have a major picked out just yet, but I don't mind taking my time to figure it all out and my parents are pressuring me either.

I graduated in 1983 (before some of you were even thought about!) from the community college with an Associate Degree in Nursing. Waited ten years and went back for by BSN. Have been out of college since 1993 but take classes through area programs to keep up my license.

Just finished my second year, and grad school is looking less and less appealing. It's become more of a chore to go to clesses than an experience recently.

In my familia it's always been an unwritten rule that college is required. My grandparents went to college, my mother, my uncle, and now it's up to my sis and I. we've taken our share of "sabaticals" but now she's really into it and ready to finish up. And with my year and a half off, I'm ready to get into it full gear as well. Just wish my mind would narrow down on a major and stop switching up on me...

Such a young group - I got my BS in Engineering in '76 and an MBA in '87!

Good luck to all of the students out there - get a degree that has some use. Communications, marketing, etc - wasting your time and money!

My parents were not going to send me to college, and I graduated high school two years early with national honors only to work in their restaraunt. So on my 18th birthday, I told my father I had to pick up something from the post office and never came back, I joined the Army. I got out of the Army 6 months early, NO benefits. I worked three jobs, but I finally paid off 14 years of college, and in my profession, none of it is utilized. There are only so many wacky art professors needed. Atleast I feel invested in myself. I may not have "things" or a nice place to live, but I have had a great education, and have been lucky enough to go to school in several parts of the US. Not bad for someone whoose second language was English. Now if I couldlearn Japanese, Filipino and Spanish, I'd be set, I could work anywhere in the US.

I graduated highschool and then went on to a skilled labor trade (Pipefitting, plumbing, and HVAC) with a 5 year aprenticeship program. I got paid to be trained and have been in my trade for about 10 years while most of my friends that went to college just drank and got a degree in something they will never use. I would love to see more people get involved in a skilled trade instead of going to college...unless they have a real goal and pursue the classes to acheive that goal.

It just seems I find alot of people saying "I went to college!" and they get the degree but end up working a profession or job that has little (or nothing) to do with what they went to school for.

I, like many others in this thread, graduated from college with my bachelors, and am now going back, yet again. This time, I'm taking pre-reqs to try to get into a doctorate program, completely unrelated to any of my undergrad study.

I honestly love learning, but college is sooo expensive. I've studied many fields on my own, but it's frustrating having to go back and pay a school to say that you know the material now.
