What kind of a shopper are you?

Contributor: Cookie Monster Mike Cookie Monster Mike
Are you the big spender type? Impulse buyer? How about the, take hours or all day shopping for a few items? Or perhaps do you know what and where you buying what you need and just do it?

Fill in the blank for other types of shoppers! Feel free to rant about shoppers who annoy you

Personally I usually either know exactly what I'm looking for when I shop, or if I'm getting some groceries at Walmart, ill head over to the electronics and take a look around just to browse for anything that catches my eye. 99% of the time I never impulse buy. I try to snag a bargain where I can, but won't spend days and time/money/gas driving around to find the best deal.

The type of shoppers that annoy me the most, are the very slow, ditsy, out of this world people who have no clue where they are or what they are doing. They just stand around in everyone's way usually, oblivious to people trying to get around them. A lot of people get road rage, I get shoppers rage

I do impulse buys on occasion, but generally I just have a look round the place, then if I see something I like I'll go home and look it up, see if it's decent, and if the price is good, I'll go back to buy it.

I know exactly what I'm getting and get it.

Although sometimes I'm bored and will aimlessly wander around just looking at crap to waste time. This is usually at 3am, so it's not like I'm in anyone's way.

I buy most of my stuff on-line, except for food and large items that would be uneconomic to ship. I'm a lazy fart who likes to shop in bed and have things delivered.

I'm not much of an impulse buyer, but I do occasionally pick up a thing or two that wasn't on my list. I like to write down everything I'm planning to get, before heading to the stores.

I hear ya about those ditsy shoppers, hate it when they leave their cart in the middle of the aisle, REALLY have the impulse to bulldoze them out of the way!

haha yup! I usually find this happens at Walmart a lot. I rarely impulse buy, I think the last big impulse buy I had was my PS3 just before Christmas 2010. Other than that my impulse buys are usually $5 or less, like a $5 dvd deal for example.

I think about large items for months and then one day my mind is made up and it looks impulse, but really isn't. I just made up my mind and want to go on to the next issue at hand. I am a go to the store, get the basics and look for bargains in the process shopper. If my item is on sale, I am a happy woman, if not I will grab the store brand. All day shoppers who have to look at everything really annoy me, some of us really are in a hurry.

I'm all over the place. I often am an impulse buyer and I like browsing even when I don't need anything in particular, but when I do know what I want to shop for, I'm quick/efficient at getting it and I won't stand there comparing paint colors in Lowe's for 40 minutes

I'm the kind of shopper that sees something I like, contemplates it, and eventually talk myself out of it for any number of reasons. Usually I decide I can live without it and that money could be better spent on other things.

The "shopping addict" type? So all of the above, basically. I'm happy to shop all day and take my time to look at things. For really large purchases I'll go back and forth between things and research until finally I just make a random decision because I can't pick. I impulse buy all the time, but I try to impulse buy sale items only (doesn't always happen). I make lists, but rarely stick to them.

A lot of the time I do this also, it's how I have been raised. Never had a well set life in terms of financial matters. So I have had to live without luxuries and some very crappy situations. So unless I'm going to use something a lot, and if it's going to benefit me, I often talk myself out of buying it. This happens a lot lately too because I have a wedding to save up for.

The sort that makes a carefully planned list...then gets to the store and winds up with about half the list and a bunch of impulse buys. <_<
Happens mostly at places like Dollar Tree, especially if I see something I 'have to have right now' (usually that means a new item for my panda bear collectiion) x'D

It depends on the category.

For groceries, I know what I need, I'm quick and efficient and usually I just use one of the baskets so I can weave around the undecided families. I'm kind of picky about my ingredients (no carrageenan in my cream, no rBGH in my dairy, conventional rather than organic vegetables, produce that's at its peak, sugar from co-ops I like, wheat from mills in cities I've visited, no pasta from that plant that wouldn't let me in for a tour) ... generally, I do know my way around the stores I get groceries at fairly well. My first time in a new Asian/Indian/Mexican market I will usually go pretty slow and take a mental inventory of what they've got and what I should go research later, but once I know my way around I'm as efficient as I am at a supermarket. So, speedy, determined, no impulse buys (though I'll buy more of something I'll always need (sugar, flour, dry beans, coconut milk) if they're on sale. Even if I look like I'm in a hurry, grocery shopping is really relaxing for me.

For clothes, I get all nervous and self-conscious, so I hate it and just don't go at all. I usually acquire new clothes by asking a boyfriend to pick me out something from the internet and ordering it. But I'm still wearing a bunch of clothes from high school, because I just hate clothes shopping.

For big items like computers or bikes, I research all the components, buy them from reliable and well-priced sources, and assemble.

I think sex toys falls somewhere similar to groceries. I'm well-informed, efficient, and it makes me happy---brick and mortar or Eden.

I can't really think of what else I buy. Oh. Books... books are about the only thing I will impulse-purchase. I have to stay out of used book stores when I'm on a budget.

Not a big spender. Somewhat of an impulsive buyer. I don't like spending money on myself, I always feel guilty. But I'll go above and beyond for my k ids and husband. I also coupon and the like.

I research the items I am looking to buy long before I go to the store. When I do pick out which model I want, I am in and out of the store as fast as I can go. I hate shopping. I am a big spender on items that hold their value, or items that are a buy once in your life time type of item.

Clearance Queen here. I buy a lot of things I probably don't need, because they're things that I like/want on steep discount. Not such a big problem with, say, cleaning supplies and work clothes, but it gets to be a big problem with books and DVDs, since I hoard both those things.

Clearance Queen is definitely nothing to be ashamed of. I often look at things on clearance. In rare cases I'll buy something I don't need right this second that is on clearance, because I know I will need it within a years time to replace the old one. Makes sense to buy now at a cheap price, than full price later down the road.
