How old is old?

Contributor: xilliannax xilliannax
I was talking to my friends children yesterday. One's 5 and the others two. They told me how they're daddy is old, but I'm not and neither is there mom. I'm 25,they're mom is 30 and they're dad is 28. So it got me wondering, what the exact conotation for OLD is?

Oooh coffee!! Thanks for reminding me. And children are adorable and have zero concept of time so their definition of old is irrelevant. I think for adults, the concept of old changes with each decade you survive.

I think it's relative to your own age and perceptions.

I think it depends on the person. I've met plenty of 50 year olds that seem old to me, but then I've met 75+ year olds that were full of life and vitality that didn't seem old to me. So I don't think it's a specific age that makes someone old, but a variety of factors like health, outlook, independence, etc.

Old is when your body is obviously past its prime and you "act old." Obviously it's subjective.

I feel like old is 30 right now, but that's old for me because I'm 22, and 30 is when your whole life is supposed to be put together. I have a long way to go!

I always used to say 30 and I'm still sticking with that... until it's my turn.

Old is when you start fussing at kids to get off your lawn.

That is so true! The concept of old has definitely continued to change for me as I've gotten... well... er... older, I guess.

I do think it's more of a state of mind than a number though.

I think it's a way of thinking, when you stop wanting to do anything with your life and refuse to change. If someone is still growing as a person and is still pursuing their dreams, they aren't old even at 90 to me.

No matter what you'll never think your old. Until 90. 90 is old.

You're old when you start thinking you're old and avoid doing things because of that.

Old always seems to be 10-20 years older than I am.
