I'm an introvert who can force herself to be pretty extroverted when necessary. I've worked retail for years so I'm pretty good at greeting and chatting people up in work situations, though small talk has never come naturally to me. I get better all the time, though People never believe me when I say I'm a bit shy

My personality type is very flexible, as I adjust to be whatever the people around me need. Examples: when I go to the theater with my acting friends and I'm surrounded by boisterous, sociable folks, I go quiet and shy because there are enough loud people around me and it makes me uncomfortable. On the flip side, if I enter a room full of shy, quiet people, I become talkative and friendly because these people obviously need a social leader and no one taking on that role makes me uncomfortable. On the average day, though, I'm more introverted and prefer to lead a quiet, private life. I don't like it when I'm drawn into an extroverted state because it wears me out (I'm a borderline HSP: Highly Sensitive Person).

My introversion coupled with the fact that I'm a writer makes me prefer the written word, so I prefer to email and chat.

I am highly introverted and prefer to spend most of my time alone. If i do talk, which I like to do from time to time its best done in person; I don't really like texing, IM, email or any another social networking services.

PS: shyness and introversion are separate from each other.

Shyness is social anxiety.

Introversion is a social preference.

Just thought I would through that you there because most people seem to think their synonyms.

Online, I'll talk to anyone I get a good feeling (character wise) from. But in person, you'll barely get boo out of me until I have spent some time around the person and gotten to know them.

INFJ. I'm often mistaken as an extrovert (and to my amusement, as a dominant personality) when in reality I'm a very introverted, even antisocial, sub.

i like to talk to people in person because you find out a lot about them that you wouldn't in a chat room or something (not that there's anything wrong with that). i'm kind of dominant personality and i like to get things done

A tsundere.
Allow me to explain - in anime subcultures, there are multiple character stereotypes. The tsun tsun (outspoken and rude) and dere dere (kind and sweet) combine into this character that may be harsh on the outside but once with their loved one, they just melt into this gooey puddle of love. Oft times, the tsun is to cover up any anti-social tendencies or just plain social awkwardness... Which I fall into - well, that's for you to find out.
Example: girl makes boy a lunch. While giving it to him, she turns away with an angry look while blushing and says "It's not like you mean anything, but I made this anyway. Take it."

Tsundere

I suppose I'm somewhere in between, I usually prefer to speak to people face to face but sometimes I'm not much of a people person. Depends on the day.

From what I understand, an introvert is someone whose energy is drained by social situations. An extrovert is someone who is energized by being around others.

So. While I may be super outgoing, talkative, and an absolute social butterfly...I'm still an introvert. I find it exhausting to be around people and need a good amount of downtime afterwards to recover.

YEAH! You hit it on the head.

I also take a while to warm up in social situations. I'll spend the first hour of a party either sitting quietly watching, or playing with the children, or just talking to one person or helping in the kitchen. Later when everyone (but me) is liquored up, I get more bold and open.

Weird. I usually come out as an introvert in personality tests, but people always tell me I have a strong, almost overwhelming personality.

I'm always the one entertaining the kids, too. I think it's mostly because I'm almost always the youngest adult at the event and I remember all too well what it was like to be at a party that was more for the adults than the kids. Nowadays the kids have handheld video games and all that fun stuff so I have had to do it less and less.

My biggest problem is the filter between my brain and my mouth doesn't work so well and I end up saying things that would be better left unsaid. My passion has often been confused with anger and someone always asks me at least once if there is something wrong. No, nothing is wrong. I'm just thinking about things that have nothing to do with what's going on here. But, you get me around my husband or people who know me and appreciate my style of humor and candor and it's like someone put a quarter in me and pulled my rip cord!

I'm not particularly shy, and I think of myself as quite extrovert. I just don't like people, so I tend to not engage people in open conversations - but if I like you then I'd happily talk to you all day, every day.
