I always just revert back to Windows 7. * was a flop and has no place on non touchscreen devices.

IIRC, with XP and Windows 7, it took a few weeks before I had everything just the way I wanted it. I turned off most of the "eye-candy" features to speed things up and migrated as much as possible from my previous computer.

With 7, I kept having an annoying problem with it disconnecting from the Internet without my telling it to. I wasn't able to download anything bigger than a few megs and it was driving me INSANE! I finally got it sorted out through a bunch of googling, and then tinkering with various settings. I always hate poking around in the registry, but that's what it finally took. I'm in no hurry whatsoever to "upgrade" again - I put upgrade in 'scare quotes' because I don't believe there's been much, if any, value added to Windows versions since 2000. Good luck!

I buy mine with Mac OS, and there's not usually too much to learn or set up, although it does take time to reinstall all of the programs.

I just brought a Sony Vaio E Series in February it took me about a hour to set it how I want it. Then about 3 days to learn the Windows 8. I have had it crash on me about 4 times already that is the only thing that urks me. I try to limit what I put on it now because I never know when it will crash. I called Vaio a couple of times but of course they can't do much but tell you to restore it back to factory. The kinks are still with Microsoft and until they can fix all the bugs that is the only solution. I can say after two months it has grown on me. I can make my way around between the desktop and the apps now.

Usually a day or two. It helps that I've had to rebuild computers for my friends a few time, so I have a basic system down
