Whos a better driver? Men or women?

Contributor: jmex83 jmex83
LMAO....I just read an article online that stated that women actually are better drivers than me.

This was some study that was done a while ago, and they compared traffic accidents/violations etc etc. says that men had more of these than women....and my theory on this is that The women just haven't been caught as much!!!! lmao!

I have seen women applying make up, talking/texting on the phones, grabbin' at kids and babies and trying to actually read maps in the drivers seat! now granted i have seen men doing some of these acts too, but when im getting cut off and manhandled on the road, its usually a woman driver!

I know that im going to catch all sorts of hell for this post, but I thought it was funny to put this out there. who do you think are the better drivers? men or women?

It would really depend upon the defining criteria of "Better" Driver.
I'm rather skilled at driving quickly (very fast) through heavy traffic but some people would consider that in itself to define me as a "Bad" driver.
When I am driving fast I am however completely engaged in what I'm doing and what the other drivers around me are doing.
Above a hundred mile per hour is NOT the time to take a sip of coffee or talk on the cell phone.

My husband is also skilled at driving quickly through traffic. Or just driving quickly in general. He thinks this makes him the Best Driver In The World. It mostly scares the crap out of me. I'll readily admit I'm not the best driver out there, but I am fairly decent.

I think in general men tend to be more reckless when driving, thus more violations/accidents. Women tend to be more distracted. That's bad in a different way. I don't know that one is any better or worse than the other.

It's funny, 'cause every time I get cut off it's by some guy!!

I'm occasionally that guy who might have "cut you off" however, in my defense... If I change lanes and pull in front of you quickly, I'm most likely also got my foot on the gas rather than the brake. So yes I my back bumper may be less than a car length in front of your front bumper but that distance will increase quickly.
What does perturb me is when someone gets in front of me and immediately slows down, often for no other reason than (it seems to me) to slow ME down.

Either can be as good or bad as the other...this is like asking "which ethnicity is the best/worst at driving"? I've been cut off and nearly killed by a fairly representantive sample of humanity, all over the world (well, three continents anyways). People are people...there are good and terrible drivers everywhere.

I don't mind so long as they cut me off and go faster than I'm going. However, I usually drive fast myself and most people go slower than me. So it's rare when someone cuts me off and doesn't slow me down. lol I HATE when people cut me off and then hit the brakes. Or when people run out in front of me when there's no one behind me because they couldn't wait that extra second...just to go 20mph. AGH.

Men do take more risks behind the wheel, women use more distractions and are in lower impact less dangerous driving situations.

Now I get to vent and state my opinion.....A MALE driver damn near killed me in a car wreck!!! Men are seriously more dangerous!! He was gawking and rear ended me when I was at a full stop in a turn lane. He was driving the speed limit, 70mph, and looked at a frickin field....why???Cause he wanted to. Oh, this is on a major highway and also a corner..Go figure.

Ok, sorry. Had to vent a bit. Over it. If you are a male driver and are responsible, this has nothing to do with you but...if you are a gawker, umm..keep your eyes on the road, please! Male or female.

Meh. People are people.

I know plenty of "reckless" female drivers.

I know plenty of distracted male drivers - texting while driving is hardly a "girl thing" and applying makeup ? - How about trying to shave your face while driving.

Trying to say one sex is ultimately better at driving than the other is just silly. The difference between male and female is only as big you let it be.

I'm with Chirple. The ability to drive is not given, nor determined, by what type of sexual organ you have.

How about this..

Anyone who's driving defensively, signaling early, prioritizing the road, not texting while driving, not on their cell phone, not drunk, is conciderate of other drivers, is a better driver than everyone else!

(PS: It's a proven fact that women are better drivers generally because they're more careful and less likely then men to want to speed demon all over Creation. Just so you know..)

I am agreeing with you on this one. I have seen plenty of bad drivers of all sexes.

Maybe the problem with that study is that the traffic stops without tickets weren't counted. Most cops are males and a vast majority of them will be straight males, maybe they just thought too many ladies were cute or needed a break for the day, so men ended up with more tickets.

You're not serious?

Yeah, having a clitoris instead of a penis causes us to "grab at children" and put on make up while we drive. It's genetic! (heavy sarcasm)

Plus, if children are in their car seats while anyone is driving (where they belong in a car) there is no reason to "Grab at" them. Of course, I know couples where the woman has to take the kids no matter where she goes, the GYNE, the gym, grocery shopping, to therapy, where ever and her husband wouldn't take the little tykes in his pristine pick up truck anywhere, "cuz they'll put their feet on my leather seats." Maybe there would be less "grabbing at children" (Jeez that comment pissed me off) if more men actually spent time with their kids out of the house. Take the kids to the hardware store with you on Saturday morning, take them to the grocery store yourself. Maybe you see more women "Grabbing at kids" because some men never bother to...

Never mind. What bullshit.

Sorry, I don't see the humor in the OPs post.

Gender has nothing to do with how people drive.

in this house, me the male. she has a problem with parking and will not go over the speed limit even if everyone around her is flying by.

It depends entirely on the person. Generalizing based on gender is utterly foolish.

Damn it, I you, P'Gell!!!

With that out of the way I know my man is the better driver, it's his job in the military, and driving tends to make me quite nervous... but overall, I don't think gender has anything to do with it.

I've seen poor drivers of both sexes, so I just try to be cautious about everybody else on the road who isn't me.
