With new, tighter gun restrictions on the horizon, are you someone who has run out and gotten a gun (or guns)?

The more gun control laws become a real possibility, the more guns are being sold. Huge, huge increases in sales.

Are you someone who ran out to buy one of the types of guns or magazines who may soon be banned? Why?

Stricter gun control laws are like never going to happen. First of all, it's the second amendment. Not the 20th or the 9438932483th. It's the SECOND. It's silver, in the top ten, has been around forever. The NRA will claim it's going against the constitution and they would be right. When you build a country and have hundreds of years of pride based on the constitution, you can't simply go back and say "Everyone has the right to bear arms...but we are going to restrict these rights a bit." The US is going to try, and every gun association with some power is going to challenge it all to hell.

People are too sensitive. Guns don't kill people and if someone has the intent to kill, they wont seek out a gun if they don't have to. I think this is one of those things that is "too late." Just look at the increase nation-wide of gun sales, it goes to show that a majority of the population don't want stricter laws and are going to take all they can before the laws are attempted to be put in place.

What makes me really hate a majority of the people pushing for these laws is that it took CHILDREN being killed to get them into gear. I get it, they are kids and it hurts more but when Virginia Tech and many other school shootings happen it's almost like people are unphased by it until it's kids. I hate these people because if these kids were 15-17 years old and it happened, they would maybe cry a little for gun control, but not as much as they are now. When Virginia Tech happened I heard little of gun control. People are so "follow the herd" when it comes to getting better stuff in place [/endrant]

Still, I don't think it'll happen. The first ten amendments are basically untouchable since they have been here since the country started gaining a more involved government. They may try, but it will be shut down hard when gun-owners speak up. If it's something someone has put to vote, people likely wont remember why they wanted gun control in the first place.

I don't own guns, I just think it would be a huge mistake for Obama to put in place gun control laws (or try, laws aren't born overnight). It's limiting freedoms people have had for more than 200 years.

EDIT:

Stormy: I've managed to find a few sources, my news doesn't like to report it but I read my news online. here, here, and here...just to name a few. I'm sure you could go to any news website and find the info.

No, I do not know how to use a gun and thus would not want to own one of any sort. I do not have good vision and would not be a good shot. I would not want a gun used against me in the event of a break in, if I could avoid it. And I couldn't live with myself if I had to shoot someone else. Killing is wrong. Period. Maybe that makes me unpopular, but there you have my .02.

Thanks phoenixfire, I was referring to the "tighter gun control laws" when asking for sources.

I suppose the 'well regulated' phrase was just for filler?

No, I own a small gun that I keep for safety purposes, I don't feel like I need another one.

There is always a spike in sales after a tragedy like this for 2 reasons. Firs some feel they need the protection - others fear new legislation will limit their future choices. It wouldn't take much of a search to find articles about the phenomena.

As for me - I don't own a gun, but support the right of those who choose to own them. Just the threat that there may be a gun in a home is a deterrent.

I support having guards at schools - or other armed personnel like the principal - just like they armed airline pilots after 9-11. Locations known to limit guns are targeted for attacks.

The righties have been saying that since 2007 and probably before that and nothing has happened. Just helps the gun stores sell more.

I'm not questioning the gun sales, I'm questioning the notion that we're suddenly going to go off the rails on gun control.

No, but my dad gave me one for Christmas. Unfortunately, the concealed carry permit changed age, so I have to wait until May to get it.

Nah, I have no interest in getting one and I don't think restrictions are going to change much anytime soon.
