That seems like a silly question in my mind. My kids are sick, I'm there to make them as comfortable as possible. It's my job, as their Mom to take care of them, why would I push them away when they need me?

I bust out the Lysol and suck it up!! I tend to my babies when they're sick and I try to keep them away from others, not myself! I do what I can do to keep myself from getting sick, lots of hand washing and cleaning, but oh well if I do. Those little monsters need me and I'm there for them!!

If they were like... super contagion sick, then I might make sure they were in a hospital, but if it were a cold or the flu, then hell no! That's just mean. Get some lysol, keep the house clean and make sure my kid feels good.

Do people really do that? I wouldn't. I have a toddler and if she's sick I take care of her, easy as that.

Err if it was something beyond the ability to care for at home I'd take them to the hospital... doubt that constitutes as 'sending away' though... or say your a single parent and can't afford to take off work or risk being sick it would probably be better for the child to send them to someone who could properly care for them... it'd still be nice to visit though x_x

I definitely wouldn't send them to older people who are more susceptible to illnesses.

I don't have a kid but I take care of my sister whenever she gets sick and I'd never think about sending her away for that time period!

If I had a kid, I would want to be there to care for them.

No, I take care of him. That being said, he may still have to go to a trusted babysitter if my husband and I both need to work. Unfortunately employers don't always let us have time off for every moment of every cold/flu/ear infection.

Umm.. no. That's pretty selfish. Why send my own kids to their grandparent's house (or someone else's) so that the grandparents (or whoever) are at risk just so that I'm not. That's very selfish. No, I would not do it. Plus, I'm pretty good with sicknesses since I do some Ayurvedic studying. For instance, my sister, mom & neices were all sick with the flu right after Christmas (one of them had it on Christmas day) and I knew that honey has an ingredient in it that kills the influenza germ & garlic cloves can help prevent you from catching sicknesses, so I loaded up on honey & garlic since I was staying in the house with all of these sick family members for several days around Christmas. So I simply use what I know to keep us from getting sick or to prevent the rest of us from catching it when one of us do. It usually works like a charm. Not always, but there's no way I'd pawn my sick children off on someone else & let them run the risk of catching it just so I'm safe. Especially a grandparent, since many times, the elderly (not all grandparents are elderly, but you get what I mean) are more at risk of catching viruses/etc. than a younger, healthier person like me.

I know - isn't that a parent's job?

Send the child to someone else to take care of! That's so offensive! They are your kids - take care of them!!!!!!!!

no never! But I might send hubby away with the other child if it's something really serious and contagious so that the other one does not catch it.

I voted no, but then I thought about it..what if the parent had a weak immune system and couldn't take care of their ill child without possibly killing themselves? The child could just have a simple cold, but if the caretaker had an immune deficiency, they may not be able to fight it. IDK...just my brain thinking the "what if" scenarios.

If I had kids I'd never be able to do that. Part of being a parent is taking care of your kid through all the ups and downs. It'd just be way to selfish to pawn my kid off onto someone else so I wouldn't be able to get sick, regardless of the situation.

Depends a lot on the circumstances. If it was something environmental at my house, or something that they needed to be hospitalized for, yes. Otherwise, definitely not. Either way, it'd be until it was safe for them to come back.

lol It'd be so dumb to send your kid to your parents' house to infect them instead of you. Unless you had cancer or something and couldn't afford to get sick.
