Would you try the boredom diet?

Contributor: laflauta laflauta
There's a new fad diet in town! For the boredom diet, you can eat whatever you want and as much as you want...as long as you eat the same thing every day. The idea is that you will get sick of eating the same food, leading you to eat less. It's kind of like what Jared Fogle (the Subway guy) did, if he were to eat only one type of sandwich. So would you try it?

No. Sounds like a good way to start down the road to malnutrition and the related complications.

I thought all restrictive diets were Boredom Diets? You're given a handful of approved foods, and you get so sick of them that you go off the diet to have some variety.

I don't think it works. It's why some people are constantly on a cycle of dieting/not-dieting. Once the boredom and hassle become too much, they stop.

This sounds like a terrible idea. Besides sucking the joy out of eating, it's healthy to eat a variety of foods.

I heard about this on the radio the other day - it's insane! They said that one person was doing it with Mac & Cheese. Like, where is the nutritional value in Mac & Cheese? I mean, doing it with Subway at least covers veggies, protein and wheat, if you get the whole wheat bun or something. Yikes.

Goodness, this is just asking for trouble! A variety of healthy foods is what the body needs. Plus, preparing food and eating it is a pleasurable and creative experience. Why would you want to do away with that?

I think I love food way too much to stick to one food for that long!

I'm not a fan of dieting (and generally, neither are bodies) and this sounds just plain silly from a nutritional/not-hating -your-life standpoint.

Huh. Well I basically do eat the same thing every day at work for lunch for the past five years. Ad I am still not bored of it. In fact when I'm at home I find myself thinking about going out and finding it just so I could eat it.

I say to all those that are partaking in this new fad... Yo-yo diet.

Now I want to play with a yo-yo.

I don't believe in diets. Generally they're unhealthy and don't really get you results. Making lifestyle changes such as committing to eating more veggies or ruling out processed foods is fine but diets are pretty much doomed to fail no matter what they are.

Or you could just eat as much fruits and vegetables as you want at every meal.

Probably not. I sorta do this in streaks though by eating the same thing for lunch or eating leftovers...but I doubt I'd have the discipline to just eat something boring everyday.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard lmao. It's like the grapefruit diet kind of. You will be nutritionally deficient if you do this AND you will be starving yourself after a while. And you'll gain the weight back after you give up on eating peanut butter sandwiches 24/7 and start eating real food.

If I wanted to go on a diet I'd talk to a nutritionist or someone who could help me figure something out that would work for me and actually help me lose weight, not something I'd get frustrated with and quit in 3 days.
