"Mayor Stubbs" has been the mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska almost all his life. That's almost 15 years…

The part-manx earned the office when a group of locals decided they didn't like their human options, and convinced residents to write-in Stubbs as their candidate of choice. What started out as a joke, turned out to be a victory, and Mayor Stubbs has governed from Nagley's General Store since. Though he does take time out of his schedule for catnip in a wine glass every afternoon.

A vote is one of the most precious gifts of democracy we have. People have bled and died to give us the right to vote in our representatives. We can ALL run for any office in this land. To do what these people did was to turn it into a sham joke and to throw away that costly gift given to them. Nothing remotely funny about it. Meanwhile, if they did not like the candidates, then they should have gotten off their butts and RUN for the office themselves. THAT is always a REAL option!

...well that's got to be the most adorable thing I've heard all day. x'D
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't vote for an animal but it is sort of a cute idea (in theory) at least.
But voting is something we shouldn't take for granted, Bignuf was spot on with their answer in that respect.

I can understand people's frustrations with public officials, but voting for a cat is not the answer.

I don't know… I look at my Governor, then I look at his competition, and the cat starts looking DARN GOOD.

Before anyone starts with "then why don't you run?" please keep in mind that to mount an election, especially for a high seat, takes lots of money, and the sad fact of the matter is that most of us here would probably see our election hopes snuffed if the fact that we frequent a sex toy website came to light.

I think some male politicians might make less stupid decisions if they had a Fleshlight, but never disregard the Puritanical streak of Americans who vote.

It seems funny in theory, but voting shouldn't be wasted in such a way. If they can get a cat written in, they could get one of themselves written in. There's just no real excuse for it.

Yep. Mostly because the town has under a thousand people, and the mayor isn't really necessary for that small of a town, as long as the town committee is good.
