WOW, talk about priortizing....sex toys before school supplies

Contributor: usmcwife99 usmcwife99
Earlier today I was at the dollar store buying sponges. I couldnt help but notice the younger couple in the line infront of me complaing to eachother how public school is supose to be free and they dont have moeny to buy there son school supplies so there just gonna get him pencils and lined paper. They werent gonna get the other stuff they were spose to bring folders, glue, cleanex etc. They were paying and they were a few cents short even after food stamps. Right then I heard the little boy say "do I have to use jenalls pink backpack if we dont have moeny" The cashier said it was ok they were a few cnets short.

The whole backpack thing now made sense cause I saw him begging to buy this cute little transformers backpack. I sorta caught the moms eye and offered 20 bucks for her to go buy the transformers backpack and some school supplies. She seemed thankfull, and I saw her go back and get it as I was leaving.

I put the sponges my truck and walked a few stores down to the toystore. I walked in and saw the man she was looking at costumes. I didnt think much. I then overheard them buying over 150 bucks worth of stuff. I was thinking to myself were did your son and daughter go to. But most of all you cant buy your kid a backpack but you can buy something for the bedroom. I then couldnt help but notice them pulling away in a chevy impala that was not a beater. Talk about nice rims lol.

If they were buying a 5 dollar thing of condoms thats one thing but even then they could pick some up at the health dept.

Ok rant over....
just wow what has to world come to???

It's sad that most people put the worst things before what means the most. A lot of parents around here tend to put everything before their kids; anything materialistic or the boyfriend who treats them like crap anyway. I think it was extremely sweet of you to let him get that backpack, it's definitely something that I would do if I had the extra money because I know when people help me out, it means the world to me.

I try not to judge because no one knows the full situation of anyone else. If these people were indeed putting sex toys in front of their son's school supplies then yes that sucks.

But, you don't know their full business. What is overheard is most times NOT the full story. Maybe they were saying they didn't have that money TODAY becuase they already had other stuff budgeted but were going to come back before school started to get the other supplies. Even the kid saying "will I have to use that back pack?" could have not been the full story. I often tell my kids I have no money even when I do because I don't want to buy them stuff and they need to learn I don't always have spending money for them. I've also joked and said "well you'll have to wear your sister's stuff" and never have I meant it.

As for the sex toys who knows..maybe they had a gift card, maybe they were buying whatever it was now and are getting paid before school starts and know they still have time to get the school stuff.. Again overhearing things does not lead to the whole story and no one knows their business but them.
And who knows maybe it was just people who looked like them, I mean where did their kids go if you JUST saw them with their kids. That just doesn't make any sense.

In general like I said if they were indeed not going to get their kid a back pack and stuff then that is pretty crappy, but I hate listening in to people and then making a judgement on them because you really don't know what their story is and I'd hate if people heard a few comments of mine and suddenly made judgements about me.

Also, just because someone has a nice car does not mean that at some point they won't be broke. Maybe when they bought the car, or bought the rims they were in a better place. Again, it's just something that I wish people wouldn't judge because you don't know the story.

I agree most of the time I TRY not to judge. I know I will never fully know or understand what there going through but I guess I am just like that.

I agree with most of what your saying. Although there whole attidtude towards there kids was sort of harsh. Even if it was a rough morning and the kids were acting up you dont have to be rude to your children. Sometimes body language speeks lowder then words.

The little boy had a smaller rather snug shirt on and ide believe maybe its his faviorte tshirt if it wasnt for the fact his pants were pretty tight. Ime trying not to judge but add all that then the rather worn out gym shoes its hard not to. You look up at his father with gold and silver(ok maybe its fake but still had to get it somehow)necklace and big flashy belt buckle, and then nicely dressed. The mom had normal clothes on.

Funny you menation gift card because I had same thought. I watched her over my shoulder go in her purse and count cash.

Then fine if they got the car at a better time in life go trade it in. Unnifortinitly stock cars dont have subbwoofers to blare your music from. Sell the rims, and get the dirt cheepest ones you can get. Who knows maybe it was his brothers car.

I guess over the past few years its become routine to listen to conversations around you. I try not to and am not doing it as much as I use to. I recieved specilized training that includes knowing your sourondings. Its soemthing I have t get get out of my head because Its sort of stuck with me in my head since leaving a area with the miltiary. Its a unfortinite routine of watching peoples body language and listeng for what in certian times and areas would mean a big threat that was drilled deap into my head. Its now a impractical and unlikely worry to have. Witch I am working on getting rid of.....They say ptsd takes time for the symtoms to reduce.

I listened to a good bit of there conversation starting at weather diet coke or diet pepsi is better to its time to go. Maybe they tellapathicly communicate part of the conversation how there getting paid tonight.

School starts tommorow in county, but maybe they go to school somewere else.

But lets be realistic....theres a better chance of them spending moeny toys. The whole familys body langguage did not suggest much happnies. The father seemed to be the domminite one and the kids body language suggested they were not happy. The whole attitude just sorta really completed it for me.

Wow. That is just sad, for the kids. If I was in that kind of situation, I would have walked up to them and asked for my $20 back. That is just bull.

Honestly, it seems like you overheard something and do not know the entire situation. Therefore, you cannot make a proper judgement.

However, I will say that education comes before sex every and any day. If a person cannot afford their child's school supplies, then they cannot afford to buy things for themselves. Period. Children come first, and the children's education comes right after that.

I agree with Sir and Alicia. We really don't know the whole story.

Did they take the kids INTO the sex store? Where did they go? The two sex stores near our house have a strict "no one under 18 under any circumstances" sign on the door, and they enforce it. They don't want to get closed down, and it is inappropriate (and illegal) to bring children into a sex store. At least in our state.

I also agree with Sir and Alicia, that kids always come first. I spent $100.00 on school supplies for ONE kid yesterday, and we had a tax break in our state, no state taxes for 10 days this month, on school supplies and some clothes. Public School is "free" in the aspect that you aren't directly paying the teachers, and certainly are not paying for everything a school uses. But, families still have responsibility to pay for a LOT of things for their kids for school.

Well, Americans can be selfish. My mother is a teacher, and she sees it all the time. Children with bruises, children with the same clothes covered in animal piss and dirt. Children who never get lunch. And their parents are always dressed nice, their parents always spoil themselves with their big trucks...You know, they put so much emphasis now on newborns and babies, but I've seen this happen-When they're born, and they age a few years, they're no longer important, you know?
