Yard Sales and Thrift Stores

Do you love shopping for 'new to me' items? Is there a reason why you do it, or wouldn't do it?

Do you have any good find stories? For me, the best two things I ever found while thrifting/yard sale-ing was a set of beautiful, walnut-trim couch and chair set; and a pair of gently used, gold and black leather Fendi heels. Woo!

I really love shopping though yard sales/thrift stores/flea markets. Sometimes you can find really unique items you wouldn't be able to find in a regular store and can get them for much cheaper too!

Usually, I tend to look for home decor items or books, but I occasionally go shopping for clothes items too, but I have to be very careful about looking for any defects in the clothes.

It's not for me. The #1 reason is because I don't have a lot of patience when it comes to shopping! I have a hard time digging though piles of stuff for an unknown item that I might like. To each his own!

If you have a sewing machine and a little know-how, thrift stores are awesome for clothing projects. I shop by pattern (color, kitsch), then material, then size. It's a lot of material for cheap, and (sometimes) less sewing than making from scratch.

I don't usually wear jewelry, but that's a new thing I'm looking for when I go out. Brooches and buttons can be converted into pendants and beads, after all.

Thift stores are my favorite sort of stores. My friend and I will make a game of trying to locate the oddest item. Usually it's inexplicable figurines or creepy clown paintings.

My favorite find this weekend though was a black and white photo from 1946 of a woman smiling. The back was in French, but said she had been in Bergen-Belson, the infamous camp. It was just so heartwarming to see her smiling and laughing after knowing what sort of things she faced.

I love thrift shopping! I've been doing it since college, before thrift shopping was cool.. lol. I get home stuff, stuff to re-do, clothing... and sometimes gifts!

I hardly ever get to go because my husband doesn't care for places like that, but I love looking for things I can repurpose or upcycle!

Thrift stores and flea markets are a lot of fun. I should try to go to them more often...

I love exploring thrift shops, but I rarely buy things from them.
