Your heart melts when... ?

Contributor: Kynky Kytty Kynky Kytty
I have been staying late tonight and I took a moment to look at my sleeping dog next to me. With its slender nose, small paws and ears twitching, I felt happy to have it with me. It's time like this where I wish that my semi-snoring fur ball would not notice when I take out my camera to take a picture. So that I would be able to immortalize the moment when my 10-year-old puppy is at its cutest. And somehow, I always have to resist the temptation to go give it some love.

What are your moments that make your heart melt and make you wonder if you will have the power to cherish that memory forever?

I can't think of anything at the moment, but I just have to say - That is so adorable! I can't wait to have a dog.

I love to watch my puppies and kitties sleeping also, they're so cute.

But, what really does it for me is when one of my boys falls asleep on the couch. I just love to stand there and look at them. Just remembering when they were little and you had to carry them to bed.

One time when my youngest was about two I put him in his room for a nap that he didn't want. I made him stay in his room and shut the door and left. When I went back to check on him, he had fallen asleep in a laundy basket fast asleep. He had taken the clothes out and put his blanket and a pillow in and was out. I ran and got my camera and got some great photos.

That's just one of many memories I'll cherish forever.

Oh, kittens, that's a good one. My boyfriends roommate's cat had a litter about a year ago. They were all grey and white and would play forever, play fighting each other, so effing adorable. Then they'd wear themselves out and all fall asleep on each other. I have a picture of their sleep pile on my phone, but I lost the cable for it. One time all four of them fell asleep on me; I was in fluffy, cuddly heaven.

Kittens are so so cute when they're al tuckered out, then they just drop and fall asleep where they are. So sweet!

Crystal Girl - I'm with you, pets are indeed cute, but my most cherished memories are about the people I know - mostly family. I remember carrying my son around a golf tournament to see Tiger Woods - he's now 6'-3"! I remember being with my father when he passed in his sleep - very peacefully. I have many family memories - only 1 or 2 pet memories.

Wow, You made me remember my husband and I used to go hiking quite a bit. We were in the NC mts on vacation hiking on these really rugged trails. One of us would have the baby (only had one then, he was 11 months) in one of these baby backpacks. Climbing over rocks and stuff. Crazy! But fun!

I also have a special moment when I had put one of my nieces to bed and said that she loved me. It was really sweet.

I'm sure I will have more moments like that if and when I do have my own children.

I was 34 and my husband was 39 when we had our first.

You have plenty of time!

When I first saw Amber. She was the most...beautiful thing to me, that I ever saw. The way that she stood, her sweet face, her bright, green eyes...just beautiful. That, I know that I'll never forget. Now, thinking of it, I tend to get mushy and start to cry. So I do not think of it often. But I do remember it. Actually, about two hours after seeing her, I kept her in the bedroom and cried to myself for a bit because it was too much to take in. Yes, I am very emotional.

Watching my boyfriend with his niece. He's a really good uncle, and it always makes me smile. Today they were playing basketball and she accidentally got hit with the ball, so he scooped her up and cradled her until she was feeling better. He's pretty much her favorite person in the word, it's pretty adorable.

After they were done playing I went over and wrapped my arms around him and told him he was going to be a wonderful father someday

When I hear the song "to Dance With My Father Again." The saddest, most moving song I have ever heard.

When my cat sneaks up onto my bed to nap in the little patch of sunlight that falls on my bedspread in the early afternoon, I just want to cuddle up with him and stay that way forever. Of course, he doesn't like it if I do this, and he'll snap at my fingers.

I love that song too - even though I tear up every time I hear it.

Cats in general for me, but more specifically...

I have trained our 2 cats to sit in chairs next to me when I am working (there are too many things for then to get into in my office). They only have to sit in the chairs if they want to be in the office, they can leave at any time.

So all day long sometimes, one or both of them are sleeping on either side of me, or sitting there staring at me. This is especially awesome, when I am getting burned out or stressed from working. I will come out of the computer zone, slide my chair back, and then see the cat/cats laying there. Cats Rule!

When my 12 year-old, who is in full-on tween mode and is far more interested in her friends than her mom, stops and hugs me for no reason with an "I love you Mommy." tossed in (she doesn't call me Mommy anymore either, except at those moments).

Watching my kids play music and draw always make me feel all warm and bursting with pride and happiness. It's hard to explain. Yes, even when my son drum solos during a particularly grueling part of my day.
I also feel all melty when I wake Gary up in the morning, he looks so sweet when he sleeps and is so cute when he's just waking up - I sometimes take a minute to revel in it before giving him a nudge to get up.
And yes, the cats are cute too - I love when one of them will chatter with us, it's so funny and sweet.
(oops, was this supposed to just be about cute little animals? )

My dog speaks too. It knows I don't tolerate any barking, but it will use every other possible noises. It's a mix of whimping, controlled growling and whispered barks.

The thing about the cats trained to remain on the chair is really cool. My dog learned not to bother me when I was on the computer, often for school work. So it would just roll on its back, showing me the belly, until I would notice. Never takes long. I can't resist that belly.

Watching my fiance sleep. I know it sounds kinda creepy, but when he's awake he's constantly moving and striving and trying as hard as he can to provide for the both of us and when he sleeps it's amazing to see how at peace he is.

There are a hundred little things. Our new dog is still in the adjustment period from being rescued from the pound, so he's always trying to prove how much he loves us so we won't send him back. His most recent move is sidling his nose onto the keyboard of my netbook when it's in my lap, then slowly leaning his weight onto it until the keys start triggering. Then he sits there, looking up at me with this "Please love me?" look on his face, while my computer goes "ascwxzaxwcxazxzeasasa szqqqqqqqqqqqq". Gets me every time.

The non-pet-related one that really sticks out, though? When my boyfriend hangs out with my little sister (she's 13). We never had a brother, and he never had a little sister (older sister and year-younger brother, but no baby sibs). At first, she was just the annoying brat who screamed "EEEEEW" every time she caught us holding hands, but not anymore. Like me, they're both gamers (though we're baby gamers compared to him). When I peek in and see them there on the couch going on and on about the finer points of the game he's teaching her, it's just amazing. He means the world to her. He's the big brother she never had.

That's really neat. It's fun when the people we are going out with are not strangers within the family. I have yet to find someone who won't feel intimidated by my family.

And taking a dog from the pound is a great thing. They really appreciate the love that you give them.

So you're a gamer, huh? Would you drool if I said I have a beta key for Starcraft II?

He has quite literally been swallowed up into my family. We're not even engaged yet, and they all treat him as if we're married. I guess they think this one's sticking around for the long haul...

This is our second adopted dog. They've both been sweet, wonderful, loving (if a bit quirky) darlings. It's heartbreaking to know what they've been through, but we can make sure that, for at least one dog, it never, ever happens again.

And please, don't tempt me to start drooling. I've been trying to cut back on my game time! >.<
