I usually just set an alert if I want to follow a particular thread. Rarely will I save a discussion as a favorite.

When you click on an interesting thread, the "heart" is just to the left of the main title. It is in a grey shade color. If you click on it, you will see the "heart" change to a orange color! Now the particular thread will appear under your "Favorite Discussions" TAB at the bottom. There are 4 main TABS. It is the second one from the left.
