Wicked and Vivid have both shut down their studios due to the anonymous porn star's HIV infection.

"An adult film performer in San Fernando Valley's lucrative porn industry has tested HIV-positive, prompting at least two well-known adult movie production companies to suspend filming as a precaution.

The HIV infection of an active porn performer is the first known local case in more than a year and immediately strengthened calls by AIDS activists for the state to mandate condom use on porn sets and to increase regulation."

Well that just plain sucks. But you can be as careful as possible and there's still always the risk factor, whether you're making porn or just a 'normal' person, dating and being sexually active. Even if condom use is mandated, condoms occasionally break. And even with stringent testing, this still happens albeit rarely. It just proves that the only 100% safe sex is no sex (or self-sex...is that a word?). Either way, it's a tragedy but the risk is always there.

Wow. Poor thing.

I wonder. Would any of you guys not have sex with someone or not fall in love with them or date them if they tested HIV positive? Is it fair to treat someone unfairly because they have AIDS? This isn't to say that they were doing this ostracization thing to the porn star involved in this article...I am simply curious.

how could the guy test negative a couple of days before and then be infecting people? maybe his test was done wrong?

I wouldn't sleep with someone with aids or HIV...well I'd be too afraid and can u rely on condoms the rest of your life? thats the only thing keeping u from getting infected

I guess I wouldn't sleep with anyone that was HIV positive/AIDS infected. That sounds bad, but I wouldn't knowingly do it.

It's sad that it's happened, and I hope that it was contained as best as it could be. However, anyone engaging in sex is at risk. Chances are, the actor probably got it in a relationship outside of the studio, because usually they're screened really well, especially the bigger companies (and Wicked & Vivid are pretty big).

As shallow as it sounds, I couldn't let myself date someone I know is HIV positive. Just too hard.

I'd be curious to see whether the rate of HIV infection in the mainstream porn industry differs from that of the general public. It wouldn't surprise me because of the screening if it was below the national average. A large number of gay porn actors died of AIDS in the 80s and early 90s because of getting infected before anyone knew what HIV even was. However, since then there have been a relatively small number of gay and straight actors getting infected to my knowledge.
