I feel that a person's body belongs to them and if they decide to sell their body, they should be able to. We can sell almost everything else that is ours, why not our body, too? As far as morals go, that is relative to the individual as well. Some people believe users of adult sexual aides and toys are immoral. I obviously do not, however, being from a small town, I have heard some very judgmental statements.

I think brothels are fine as long as they are away from areas with children and clients/staff have mandatory STD testing. Otherwise you get deprived perverts with built up aggression. Granted, you will have those no matter what...but I believe it would cut back.

I say yes to Nevadan brothels. They are well regulated. The sex workers are tested regularly for STDs and they need a license and background check to work. Brothel owners also need a license and background check. The sex workers are of age and are doing what they do of their own volition.
IMO, it would be safer to have unprotected sex with one of these people than to have unprotected sex with some non-sex worker stranger. Those who are worried about health issues should stop worrying.

I believe just about everything should have a legal outlet. Prostitution, drugs...it just increases the black market for these things and makes it impossible to regulate. It'd be easier to stop things like sex slavery and child prostitution if you had to be a licensed brother to operate.

Absolutely, as long as the women are consenting to their job position and not in danger of rape, robbery, etc. I think it's good that it's legal, that way the police can arrest an unruly customer, rather than getting the worker in trouble.

Yes. Legalize prostitution nationally. I won't patronize it but lots of people will Tax it and regulate it. Black markets create problems. I think there do need to be safeguards against STDs and also against women being coerced into sex work. But prostitution will always be with us, legal or illegal. If it's legal it can be controlled and can be a source of revenue for cash-strapped states.

I would much rather women who want to work in such an industry do so through a brothel. That way they are (in theory) safer -- STI's and violence wise, and less likely to get ripped off your abused by some pimp.

brothels do require regular testing for diseases as does the porn industry. but even then there's still risk of getting STDs & STIs. I've heard all too often that porn stars get infected despite regular testing. for this reason, brothels or prostitution should not even exist. yeah, it's a person's choice to take that risk or not. however, it's just not right if taking that risk puts another person or persons at risk.

Prostitution is already happening everywhere. It being illegal means that law enforcement spends time and money on arresting people for engaging in prostitution, whether they're taken in for "solicitation" or "tax evasion". Prostitutes put themselves in danger to make their money. Legalizing prostitution would free up the bit of law enforcement that has to bother with it, bring in additional income to the state/federal government from taxes, and make it safer for both workers and clients by requiring testing and, in the case of brothels, providing a safe environment.

I think legalizing prostitution would be a good idea. These women are going to engage in the same type of behavior if it's legal or not. However, if it IS legal, at least we can make sure that STI's aren't being spread, that the women aren't being abused, and that the women are all over 18 (way too many prostitutes are mere under-18 teeenagers).

I think studies have shown that legalizing it significantly raises the survival rate of sex workers, and also gives them a boost in confidence. They can get seriously hurt in the current legal climate, and if someone rapes or beats them they can't really go to the police. So yeah, I support brothels so long as they are supportive environments for the sex workers and they're not made to compete with each other.

Frankly, I don't really understand why the sex trade is even illegal. I truly feel like the government could make a LOT of money off of a government regulated (and highly taxed) sex industry. A LOT. People already pay a lot for sex in many situations and no matter how high the price went, I'm quite sure those would could afford it would keep paying.
I definitely agree there should be regulations, but I think it would only be beneficial in the end.

I can see the pros and cons of this but I'm not sure I can make a real unbiased choice about this.

it seems like a good idea if they are regulated and treat their employees well. it certainly seems much safer for the workers, and i'm all for that.

Yes, for the reasons I listed in "2" on this topic.
Prostitution is not going to end anytime soon. So why not make it legal? That way it can be monitored, taxed and safer for the women involved.
