How concerned are you about your online privacy?

CBC is doing a survey regarding online privacy and how concerned the average person is about major internet corporations collecting your personal information via the internet without your knowledge or permission. I was curious, how concerned are you about the privacy and security of your personal information?

I feel like I should do more - use different e-mail accounts for different sites, limit my facebook activity etc. In the end convenience and laziness win out.

I don't post everything on Facebook and I have separate email accounts for official business and entertainment. That's about all I do...

I'm very concerned about internet privacy. Not so much from internet corporations, but from people I know from my 'real' life. I view the internet as my escape from them, so I don't put up any information that would identify me as me. This has the added bonus of protecting me from said corporations.

I'm somewhat concerned. However, I don't think I have a lot to panic about right now. I check my bank accounts frequently, so I do not worry too much about my bank information. I don't have facebook, so no problems there, as well. I also use at least five different email accounts.

I am extremely concerned about my online privacy to the point of being paranoid. I have separate email accounts, I do not ever use my real name or use any pictures, etc.

I am pretty concerned, though I am a web developer and know a decent bit about it. I keep several email accounts, never link my Facebook to anything and keep my privacy settings high, and ask sites to take my personal information down if it appears on search engines.

Ideally I'd get rid of my Facebook altogether, but it's become a necessity in my social group.

I know that I sometimes turn a blind eye to my online safety and that it's foolish, but I also sort of feel like if I want to have any kind of online presence (FB, etc.) it's going to be somewhat risky. I do take some care to set all my things to private, but I also play a bit in the denial arena about how at risk I could be.

I usually just try to only buy from well-known sites (here, Amazon.com, Ebay.com, Borders, ect.) I also try not to put anything on my Facebook ect. that wouldn't look bad on a job interview. (I do post about awesome concerts, going shopping, having a bad day, and such but I feel like that won't hinder me too much)

Like most here, I am somewhat concerned with privacy and security. I use an alias on most sites, I have multiple e-mail addresses, and I don't belong to Facebook as I just don't trust their security at all.

Very concerned as I have 20+ email accounts, always never put my correct birth date, name or address in any form, just to keep the people selling the data off base.

I am very concerned with the amount of information that big corporations can get. Its a scary thought and if all of that information got into the wrong hands then all hell would break loose.

One of my teachers a few semesters back was talking about the government trying to start a "back door policy" giving them the right to basically hack into anyone's computer and see what they are doing. Is this true? I have no clue. I do think that would be very wrong and against peoples' rights.

I am a little concerned about my privacy simply because it is my business what I do on the internet, and I don't feel like anyone should be baby sitting my sessions.

I have heard the same thing about the "back door policy" I've wondered if it's true though.

I have snotty in laws so I don't even have my real name on facebook. I also keep my privacy settings really high because I feel it's not the business of any possible future employers or schools to have the privelege to know every little detail of my personal life. I have a very private life and I like keeping it that way.

I put somewhat concerned, because there are times when I like to be private, and other times - like emailing with friends, Facebook (though I use this extremely rarely, and almost never post status updates - that I don't worry about using my real name, etc.

i worry but not to the point of paranoia. The government will do what it will, but I'm more concerned about job prospects than anything else. I try to keep my public image (on FB and such) as mild as possible. my personal blog is a different story, but since it doesn't carry any real info about me, i really don't care.

I'm somewhat concerned about it, thinking what if something I did online (masturbating over webcam) or sexy chats fell into the wrong hands?

I'm looking for a job right now, and I'm worried that they (thanks to Google search/archiving) would find something that I said on a Facebook page out of context.

You wouldent believe how much information is out there and how easy it is to get your personal information if you had the right determined person looking.

I pretty much don't post anything online, I go by an online alias, and I don't share any real information about my life (except here, where I openly share my sex life). I'm not extremely concerned for that reason, I'm pretty safe when browsing the internet and I keep my computer fairly well protected.. I'm a bit of a computer geek though so I know how to do so.
