Father of 30(!) wants child support help from the state

Move over Octomom... Desmond Hatchett of Knoxville, Tenn. just set a new record by fathering 30 children with 11 different women.

I'm horrified about his lack of moral compass (and apparent inability to use a condom), but I try not to judge others... except, Mr. Hatchett is now looking to the government to help support his kids; he's discovered paying child support for 30 kids is very difficult with only a minimum wage job.

You can read the full story on MSN.com: Father of 30, by 11 women, wants child support help from the state

I've never been one to want to set limits, but this is out of hand. According to the local station, WREG, "Hatchett [has] not broken any laws fathering so many children, and... the state had no means to require him to stop."

On the one hand, I firmly believe the children shouldn't suffer for the actions of their biological parents. On the other hand, if I were a resident of Tennessee I'd consider it a better use of my tax dollars to sterilize this guy than to pay child support.

What do you think, fellow contributors?

People in Tennessee have a very, very low tax burden. In a lot of these situations stuff like this goes down because the mothers requested TANF benefits and by Federal law, fathers are required to pay child support if the mother gets these benefits to up her income level and lessen her benefit package.

It's a screwed up situation, that's for sure. I think I would like to see something along the lines of "spend 180 days in jail or get a vasectomy and sign over your parental rights" kind of deal should be made. But, I'm kind of crabby about kids and support and all that jazz.

Let's hope none of the kids meet later on in high school ...

"Hey, Dad, there's this cute girl I wanna date - is she one of my sisters?"

My hubby told me about this guy yesterday. WHAT women in her right mind has unprotected sex with this guy? Seriously? How is... "Well, I have 30 children and I pay child support for them which is about 1.50 each child. And I NEED it lowered."...Sexy? Seriously, I'd go running the other way.

I gotta say, my first impulsive reaction was "Who would fuck this guy?" and second "And not use birth control?" WTF is wrong with some people?

I'd say nothing for him, since he's shown bad judgement. For the women and children yes.

When you're only getting $1.50 a month for your kids, when does child support become more symbolic than necessary? I really don't know anything about the legal process of child support to say one thing or another, though.

I think we can all agree that $1.50 a month is ridiculous, however Mr. Hatchett — his name is what I'd like to see done to his penis, ironic, mais oui? — makes only minimum wage. No court will impose child care payments that would bankrupt a man or force him to starve or be homeless.

I think the state should offer up a trade: he gets a vasectomy, they give the mothers food stamps and other benefits.

Oh good gravy, sir, please keep it in your pants if there's no condom about. It's not rocket science.

Given the range of ages of his children (toddlers to fourteen years old), you'd think he'd had some time to learn his lesson. I certainly hope he's learned it by now, or we may have a contestant for the new world champion of dumbassery.

I read this nonsense as well. I thought it was crazy that he even had the gaul to ask. Then they were talking about how some of the moms actually knew he had all those kids. How could a person make a conscious decision to have a child with this man.
