I agree - its a very complicated issue. Your insights are well thought out.

I come out solidly in the gray on this! We are so litigious that products are pulled or discarded for the most frivolous reasons - and as you point out can go on to help many people outside the US.

An interesting example is that many new drugs - developed in the US - are approved in Europe first because they take a more utilitarian perspective. They have laws that limit damages and are willing to accept that some will be harmed for the greater good.

Many of those drugs are eventually approved in the US after extended us in Europe - is it fair that people with serious illness have to go to Europe for treatment because we have too many lawyers in the US?

I don't feel that I know enough about the subject with just that one example to make an educated decision here. I didn't know that we did that, but at the same time, I'm not surprised.

considering the united states has very poor standards as it is, products deemed unfit for sale in this country should be deemed unfit for sale ANYWHERE.
