How politically active are you?

Contributor: spiced spiced
I overheard some people talking about different ways to participate in the political process while we were out to dinner earlier. Now I'm wondering how politically active Edenites are. How about you?

To be honest:
I would like to be more politically active. When I started my studies I went out every weekend to a political action.

Unfortunately during time this ceased to almost zero.

I hate politics but sadly they are necessary. I just hate how some friends will rip each other to pieces over something silly.

I'm one of those sorry people that cares about the big picture -- national elections (like the president) and law changing questions about issues I care about.

Regular local elections? I can't tell you the name of anyone in office locally where I live, let alone anything about them.

Highly active. I do almost all of those things.

Always vote, I call elected officials to register my opinion (frequently), I've written emails & snail mails, am involved in activism & "slactivism," etc.

I have not ran myself or been to a community meeting here, been directly on a political campaign team or written to my local paper. Those are the only things I've not done.

I'm from a very political family, so I got involved at a very early age. I'm getting less involved now that I'm at a pretty conservative college. I hope to get back into politics once I graduate.

I vote, write to elected official, phone bank for political groups, and attend political events.

I always vote. But I also involve myself in a fair amount of work for women's rights and victim advocacy on the political level.

I voted as soon as I was old enough, and I usually spend a lot of time reading up on the issues and sharing things I find with other people and discussing them. But I'm not very active in the sense of joining campaigns or calling representatives or anything, because I hardly ever 100% agree with what any politician is doing.

I think that's true for a lot of us. I do know the names, and their party affiliations, but I don't know much else about them. Now I feel inspired to change that!

That's outstanding! I haven't missed any elections since I turned 18, despite moving around a fair amount. I also do a bunch of slactivism and other feedback to my state and national officials. I've made some phone calls for a couple of politicians and one organization. I've been to a couple of county commission meetings, which was eye-opening.

I think it's great that you do all those things. I won't be at all surprised if, in 20 years of so, I read, "Today, President Kendra _______ unveiled a bold initiative to..."

I can't recall every agreeing 100% with any politician (one of our current Senators comes close). I email and call (and occasionally write) my elected officials, even if I know they don't agree with me. In fact, I'm more likely to give them my opinion if I know they disagree. If there's overwhelming support or opposition for something, sometimes they'll change their position on an issue. I've seen it happen many times.

I think it's GREAT that so many Edenites are at least somewhat politically engaged. I'm GenX, and when I was 19, almost nobody I knew even bothered to vote. Some of my friends actually made fun of me because I went to anti-apartheid protests!

I should be more active. It's unfortunate that saying 'I'm educated about most of the issues' is considered fairly active.

I have class and stuff. I don't have time to keep up with all that. Sure, voting these days is easy and convenient and all you have to do is mail stuff but I barely have time to brush my teeth when school starts, let alone try and find stamps or read up on stuff to make a decision that matched my political views.

I feel ya. That was me in college. Classes, library, sports, work, friends, partying...got to be too much.

I did vote, thanks mainly to friends who were involved and made it effortless. They took me to register locally (they were going anyway so I tagged along) and then took me to vote.

Voting always made me feel good, which is (I guess) why I've kept doing it every election since. But like anything else, it's hard to schedule.
