New York Liberates Sex Toys

Contributor: edenguy edenguy
Recently condom manufacturer Trojan attempted a publicity stunt where they would distribute free vibrators in New York from hot dog style carts.

At first the city intervened, citing an ordinance against impeding traffic. Finally Bloomberg issued statements giving Trojan a go ahead with its campaign.

I'm surprised this was even an issue in New York. In places like Georgia and Alabama I can understand; they still have restrictions on didistribution of sex toys

I loved this quote from the original story : "One of those on line...grumbled that Mayor Michael Bloomberg "doesn't want anyone to have fun. You can't have a giant soda, You can't have a vibrator.""

The city shutdown the whole operation because the proper permits were obtained (and later gave it the green light once all the paperwork was filled out). What I'm trying to figure out is what were the permits were for? The guys who chase pedestrians down to hand them unwanted store flyers don't seem to require permits to give stuff away. Trojan wasn't selling items, handling food or staging a protest/march, so what did they need a permit for?

Btw, if you haven't done so already please vote in my poll

Did you visit a Trojan Pleasure Cart in NYC?

If you'd seen videos of the actual even, the line was HUGE. It was definitely an impediment for foot traffic, and that's why the city expects you to fill out permits for major events like that.

I'm sure part of why Trojan didn't fill out permits was to grab even more headlines, which was very smart on their part.
