Teachers Being Bad

So I have an interest in this topic because I know a lot of teachers (elementary, middle and high school teachers). It just happened to be a popular career path to follow for many of my friends and family members when they graduated. So I notice when the news reports teachers fired or suspended due to inappropriate relationships with students and I pay attention when I hear community members talking about local teachers getting into trouble for things they are doing with students. And I see things on the internet constantly (it seems) in so many areas where this is happening. Here are my questions to spark discussion:

Does it seem like more teachers are having inappropriate sexual relationships with minor students now than before (like even 10-15 years ago)?
Some of my family members say that these things did happen when they were in school too but the teachers just didn't get caught. Do other people agree with this?

Or is it because the teachers are teaching school younger now? so they are closer in age with the students? (except for the lower grades obviously)

Are people/teachers less concerned now with morals? or are they just more concerned with satisfying their own needs?

What role do you think social media has in it? (if at all)

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this topic!! Thanks!!

Briefly - I don't think much has changed throughout the years - except everyone is under a microscope and people are not afraid to make claims. Although most are true - I think many are fabricated to get attention.

Victim-hood is chic, too many want to be victims - it makes them feel like they belong to some long suppressed group.

I for one would not have felt bad about my cute HS history teacher seducing me - let's just say she wouldn't have had to try hard

Yeah but I'm sure your parents wouldn't have appreciated that!!

But after having another conversation with a friend, she says that the few that do this make them all look bad. And that most teachers (in her opinion) wouldn't dare have sex with a student for several reasons-obviously knowing that it is wrong, risking their career and yuk (her words). She says that it just gets a lot of media attention now, more than it did years ago. So it seems like there are more teachers doing it.

And I added that with social media, there are more ways for students to communicate outside of school, there are more temptations (or it's much harder to avoid than it probably was just a few years ago) and I'm sure it's also much easier to get caught now too for the same reasons.

Of course this is just the opinion of a couple of people. I wasn't sure so that's why I thought it would be an interesting topic to discuss. I think teaching is one of the most challenging jobs you can have from what I have witnessed. I also think teachers are severely underpaid and underappreciated in society today for what they are asked to do and what they have to deal with all the time. So, I happen to agree with my friend about this issue.
