Sexual oppression and the Duggar family

Contributor: BlackOrchid BlackOrchid
I believe the recent scandal that broke about the oldest son in the Duggar family, is in part due to the extreme sexual oppression these young people are subjected to in their family.

Instead of just setting boundaries for themselves such as pledging virginity until marriage, the extreme lack of any sexual feelings or behaviors being allowed I believe will have many ill effects on them.

I grew up being very religious and felt that sexual contact was wrong. It absolutely had negative consequences on me.

Anyone else care to share any opinions?

Before your posted this thread, I was happily unaware of the existence of the Duggar Family. Sure I was aware of a few christian families who adopted quite a few children. My very first GF was adopted herself. Her folks were "Church Friends" with a family who had children from many other countries, including a few from that GF's country of origin.

As far as the religious oppression of sexuality, I personally would consider that to be a form of abuse BY organized religion and its earthly representatives.

And as far as Josh Duggar and him resigning from the "Family Research Council", that is a Hate Group from my perspective anyway.

I figured no sex until marriage, but I knew nothing about their 'no sexual feelings.' That is cruel! Teens naturally have hormones rampant, so it makes it doubly cruel when the mother is playing golf and her husband is standing behind her kind of hugging her for her to tell the two afianced people 'You can't do this yet' and in a snide tone.

They should remove all the kids from that so-called family.

If it weren't for this thread, I wouldn't have known about this either. I had to Google the story to find out more about this situation. I find it really scary to know that his parents knew about this AND DID NOTHING.

Mike Huckabee, a notable conservative senator and past presidential candidate, has been quoted as saying, "Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things...(CNN in an article written by Dana Ford)" This guy is neither a "good person" nor was this a "mistake".

THEY KNEW?? That excuse 'good people do regrettable things, can be stretched only so far! If his parents knew and did nothing, then they obviously valued their income from the show more than they cared for the victim and their son!!

According to the CNN information. I'll post the link I saw later. Ok, it's later and this is what I promised.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Pedophilia and child molestation occur over all sorts of family dynamics. You can't really blame any one thing for it except the people who commit these crimes.
