As the tile says: Do you feel you need to be familiar with the original before viewing a porn parody/adaptation ?

For example, I've been curious about Pride and Prejudice Hidden Lusts (something about the cover) but haven't bought it because I'm afraid I won't get it because I never read the original.

I'm curious about that parody, too! I've read the original and loved it, as well as various screen adaptations. You should be able to borrow the book from your library first if you're concerned about appreciating the original before the parody. Enjoy!

It depends on the porn parody, IMO. For something like Batman or Sherlock Holmes, people tend to be familiar with the idea of the characters even if they haven't gone through 50 years of comic book canon or read all the original Sherlock Holmes stories and spend their Saturdays debating Granada vs Russian Holmes and which is the better adaptation.

A well made movie, whether a porn parody or sequel, should stand on its own and not require prior knowledge.

I agree it should be able to stand on it own but there is a big difference between simply standing on it own and enjoying a work to its fullest.

Don't even have to go to the library since it public domain you can get for free online on any e-reader, most including mine have it preloaded. You can read it here: link and audio book version here: link

I actually decided to watch the 2005 film adaptation, and have down loaded the audiobook so soon I will finally get that parody. Porn making do all those assigned readings I didn't do in high-school

Depends on what's being parodied, and how they go about it. Generally, being familiar with the original work makes it more enjoyable, though it's not always necessary.

A parody makes no sense, other then as a silly movie, if you don't know the original.
