Die Affen fragen (The Monkey Question)

Contributor: El-Jaro El-Jaro
I'm sure a bunch of us remember "Malcolm in the Middle", the scene where the mom is shaving the dad's back with clippers in the kitchen.

Do couples groom their partner like the monkeys do?

When it comes to grooming each other in a relationship, is this a common thing? Does your sig.other come at you with tweezers or do other gross body upkeep things? Does your partner refuse to do any of that?

I have never shaved my partner, but I would. I give her baths and other things like that, I also help her put on makeup sometimes. My partner, however, does not do that for me. I probably wouldn't want her to, either. HAHAH!

I used to work for a man named...uh....Will. He wasn't overly hairy, but I think he had pretty distinctive dark back hair. He once told me he had his roommate/best friend shave his back for him once, because he was desperate (hot date), and she opted to instead shave a big "W" into his backhair. From then on his kept up regular waxing appointments. Oh vanity.

I'm pretty sure I do most of the "partner grooming" in our relationship. When was the last time you brushed my hair, huh? Huh??! * sulks in corner *

I have to brush my bf's hair sometimes because he goes around with bedhead everywhere, as well as get on his butt to shave and such as well.

He doesn't do anything for me but we don't live together... yet. Though he's said he'd love to wash my back in the shower and such, but we've yet to do that.

I get shaved with clippers in the bathroom. I try really hard to get the hair but it is just impossible to shave yourself. Being hairy is a curse in the summer time! Me and Sabu (our Maine Coon Cat) spend the really hot summer days laying together on the cool tile floor with our legs and paws up in the air 'cooking'.

I WISH my ex-husband let me shave him - he only half-assed shaved when he bothered to. I did cut his hair once. I did pretty well. He never did anything for me, and I don't think I would have let him.

The silly bastard showed up at our divorce-paper signing last week with a half-ass shave he did three days before that. At least I bothered to shower, style my hair, and wear lipstick, even after road-tripping a day-and-a-half to get there!

"get shaved"...by me And you get your grizzly bear back scratches too. But I like it, so I don't mind. (I would love to catch you laying on the bathroom floor... more like laying in bed with that damn cat!)

Slightly unrelated to the actually topic, but @Chilipepper - I have a dress picked out for the day I have to be in court for my divorce I'm normally not spiteful but I'd like to remind him what he's missing.

My fiance is a mechanic, so dirt and grease end up everywhere, and it's pretty hard to clean out. Just last night I told him I should have showered with him to get the extra dirt that was still on his back in hard to read spots. But he'll end up getting blackheads and the like and it's hard to get those out of your shoulder blades on your own. He hates it but sometimes I make him sit still so I can go through and try to get everything out. I know it's kinda gross, but still, they can't stay in there, lol.

Does having him dye my hair for me count as grooming at all?

I cut my mans hair but I do not shave his beard. I had my man cut my hair, I couldnt do it on my own since my hair is quite long and I wanted to make sure my hair was evenly cut. I supervised!

We often shower together and we always wash each others back. I also take care of my mans blackheads but would never let my man do mine bcs he is terrible at it.

Ha! I have this funny image in my head of Gary and the Maine Coon lying, steaming away in front of a box fan. Is it really humid where you live? Heat is so much worse where it's humid.

He's not so bad at it, but I'm so happy I'm not the only one that'll sit and pick at these, lol

When the soon to be ex-wife loved me. I would do just about anything she needed done or asked of me. She never returned the favor, beyond a ten second back scratch. With the next women in my permanent life, we will be closer than I was with my first. The second time around I will be an even better man.
I can handle just about any first aid. I have a big problem with #2. But, that and vomit, blood can happen. And as a partner. A True partner. There is no line to draw. Do what is needed, care & comfort.

Thank god my bf is really well groomed, takes care of himself, and finds it important. I don't have to do anything. The most I have to do is fix his cuffs on shirts sometimes, but that's not hygiene.

We clean each other in the shower for fun though.

I shave my husband's back and his neck for him, and I sometimes will fix any spots he's missed when shaving his head. He's a hairy man and there's just some areas that it's hard to reach on your own.

This is a bit off-topic too, but I suggest buying St. Ives scrub for him, and maybe use that on his back instead. It's better for the skin, and will make him nice and smooth too. I use it every now and then, it's really relaxing and doesn't mar the skin. (Yes, I am quite crazy about my appearance.)

also off topic: I just switched from shaving foam to shaving gel and like the results. The shaves seem to be a lot closer, which prevents break outs, which prevents scarring and ick.

Which do you use? I've been looking for a good one for my face for a while now, and I haven't bought any because they all are expensive and I do not want to buy it if it's not going to be good. I saw one in Target, called...uh...Jack something or other, I forgot the full name. But it's really expensive, and I do not know what to do.

basically, they form a slick surface on the skin that is thicker than shaving cream.

I got mine at a dollar store!

It's got about the same consistency as that orange facewash from Neutragena.

Dollar Store knock off...it looks like a Gillette knock off from the color/shape of the tube. No name just "Shave Gel for Men"

I'll look into it. I've tried buying the scrubs and washes that remove the dirt and stuff that causes blackheads, but he never remembers to use them, lol

Another thing you can do for a close shave too is a shaving cream heater thingy. My fiance has one that just does the creams, but I just got him one from Bed, Bath, and Beyond that also does gels. If you plug it in before you shower, then shave right after you shower, you'll also get a close shave because everything's all opened.
