F*g Hag/D*yke Tyke

An old friend of mine, who was gay, called me his "fag hag" since I was basically his only close friend that was a girl. I guess I always thought that's what that term meant...

iv never herd of this but i agree with the bulk of the people who posted, this is really wrong. i mean you are the way you are. i used to be a jerk in high school and picked on a lot of kids just cause they were "frutty", today im disgusted with what i did and have called to apologize to those kids for' the harm i did them.

these words make me mad not because i like gay or lesbian people because i personally don't think that's right but because they are insulting and unnecessary, just like swear words.

I've never actually heard these words in reference to a person trying to "turn" someone straight. I always heard it either in the context of someone who was just attracted to homosexuals (watching gay porn instead of straight, for example) or had a lot of gay friends. Makes me glad I never really used these terms in casual conversation!

I grew up around gay folks in the SF Bay Area. I've heard "fag hag" since I was a kid and I've been called that as well LOL (mostly by ppl who don't know I'm pansexual). I've never in my life heard it to refer to trying to turn a gay guy straight. All my gay friends used it to refer to straight women who hang out with gay men. I never thought it was anything offensive and neither did they.

I've never heard of this. It's almost funny. Almost because it could cause emotional harm, which ain't cool. If I've learned anything in my life, though, it's that karmic justice is an absolute bitch, and she's got a long memory for doing stuff like this to another person.

I have heard these terms to describe people who collect gay friends as well. Haha, guys who think they can turn me straight are usually not the smartest.

Please do "turn" them. nothing wrong with them being bi. How ever it is offensive for them to call them selves a lesbian female or a gay male. I have met many "lesbians" that where just scared of guys so they "turned" when a nice man showed up. pish try both sides of the fence before claiming your stance. Truely gay or lesbian won't date the opposit unless they are still unsure of them selves and in the end they stay gay.

*grumbles* trying to up their egos going after the confused or unsure. Thats mean and evil no matter how you look at it. Just like dating a virgin that wants to be virgin tell marriage and constantly trying to change their mind. Not respectful, totally trashy human, who should have to run a maze of traps.... *rants on*

*pops back up* science says it's chemical and it can't be changed.

I'm a bit confused but if you mean hangs out with gays. I do love them to pieces. nothing wrong with it. big egos annoy me no matter the context.

I am called a Fag Hag, but I do not date gay men. It was given to me because I have a host of gay friends and a couple of gay family members.

However, I do know of a woman who dates/ goes after only gay men. I don't think it's to "convert" them as much as it is self-esteem. I think she feels safe with them and tries to persue them. I don't know.

I've joked about being a Fag Hag but I'm pretty gay, myself so it doesn't really fit and isn't really insulting in my terms. I'm a lesbian who loves gay men, go figure.

Weird! One of my close gay friends told me that a "fag hag" is the counter-part to a 'gay best friend'; a gay man's straight, female friend. I didn't like it (mostly because "hag" is not something you call a young person!), but he fondly calls me this from time to time anyway, and occasionally when introducing me to his other friends.

I don't know anyone who meets your given definition of these terms! That behavior is totally disrespectful.

LOL What?! That sounds crazy to me. Sounds like words a 10 year old made up. Ha Ha. I have never heard it.

It sounds like it might actually be something serious though. Maybe they have some deep personal insecurity? Heck, I'm no psychologist, but needing to date someone who's not interested in your gender only in hopes of making them interested sounds like a real issue. I don't know anyone like that. Sounds like a lot of heartache though.

I've only heard of f*g hag, and was under the impression that it just mean girls that liked to hang out with and had lots of gay friends. I'm pretty sure the mom in Queer as Folk called herself one, and it was not to date them.

I've heard the term before, from a gay guy who had a lot of female friends. He used it to describe any girl who hung out with him. (Fag Hag). As far as Dyke Tyke, Never heard the term before.

I've heard of the terms. I was considered a "fag hag" in high school by others because I had gay male friends. I didn't think of it that way, they were just my friends...I think it's stupid. It just separates LGBTQ+ people from the heteros further.

Yeah, this is what I've heard, too - I thought it was more of a term to refer to straight-gay friendships between people of different genders than a term for people trying to "turn" gay people straight. There is definitely a different sort of meaning depending on the context and the person speaking, though, good point.
