How many people do you have to sleep with in order to count as "promiscuous"?

I picked a number, but in my mind promiscuous is more about how close together the sex partners are or if you're sleeping with multiple people at the same time (outside a polyamorous relationship/understan ding). I link the term with any behavior that increases the person's likelihood of getting an STD.

Promiscuous, ha yesss! There’s the rub. If you’re already married, ONE encounter completes the definition. If you’re single, more than 50 may, and I say may, complete my definition at my own risk! I have to admit though, if I was offered a three-way with my wife, go for it; it’s a once-in-a-life-time dream! One of my fantasies! Am I therefore, promiscuous?

There Should be more options, 21 is a lot different than 50 for ex.
Promiscuity is more about how many partners in a certain span of time. It also has to do with the types of encounters, one-night stands vs. relationships that tend to not work out. How much the person adheres to safe sex also applies.

I'm not so sure how much a person adheres to safe sex applies, but simply the ratio of the number of partners to a certain amount of time.

Do you mean like in general?Like if you sleep with people a lot all at the same time that's promiscuous. If you're a serial monogamist and you hit 20 people eventually I don't think that's promiscuous.

Either way I think it's fun for everyone to be promiscuous at one point or another in their life. It's your youth. Enjoy it.

I believe that any number more then one. That does not count your spouse dying, and you falling in love with someone else. You can input a bunch of different scenarios there. But I feel if you are bouncing around from partner to partner, thats being promiscuous.

same.

I usually associate it with like, taste and discretion. If you are indiscriminate with your sex partners and take unnecessary risks with your sexuality, I'm more inclined to put someone on the "promiscuous in a bad way" category.

It doesn't have much to do with number.

I think the word 'promiscuous' has bad connotations, particularly for women. I try not to think about it or judge people for their sexual encounters at all.

As hinted at in posts above, I would have liked an "other" option. I tend to look at promiscuous behavior to be less about the number of partners one has had and more a reflection of how discriminant one is with their choices. If one is choosing partners based on desirable traits, thinking of safety, and is benefiting from the experience in some way (be it a one-time hook up or an actual relationship) then in my mind it's not promiscuous.

I hate labeling people as promiscuous. If you like sex, there's no shame in that.

I don't think it has anything to do with a number. I think it has more to do with how you focus your sexual energy. I think if you are focusing your sexual energy on other people besides your partner, or exceding the parameters of the commitment you share then that would be promiscuous behavior.

I wouldn't really say it's a matter of how many, but over a certain period of time. 6-10 over the course of an average lifetime? Not so bad. 6-10 in a year? You might have a problem.
