How much older is too old for a significant other?

Do you abide by the rule of twice your age minus seven years, or does age not matter at all to you? What is the biggest age difference you have ever had in partner?

Personally, I try not to date someone who is closer in age to my parents than me. As I get older though, its a harder "rule" to follow, especially since I'm 30, my dad is 51, my mom is 50, and I've met some gentlemen in the 40-45 age range that I've been VERY attracted to. I think that age differences change depending on where you are in your life.

No I don't. The biggest age difference has been 10 years and I wouldn't go past 20 years.

I'd say it depends a lot from person to person. Some people fit better with people way older/younger than themselves, some people with people close in age to them

I don't abide by that rule. I always date men older than me and it's more about their maturity level than the number. I was married to a guy 6 years older than me, but his maturity level was more like 6 years younger than me. The biggest age difference I have had with a partner was 13 years. But again, maturity wise it was more like 4 or 5 years difference.

I think the 2x your age + or - 7 years is a good rule to follow. The biggest age difference/only difference I've had in a partner is 3 years.

just talking for me. its not about the age. its about how much you both care for each other. if both of you are ready. not all people are ready to start a relationship. its about how respectful you both are. also how responsible you both are. its better to find someone to be happy with then some drunken fool or some abusive person. the relationship is about you. not anyone els. be happy.

When I was much younger I would have said a 5 to 7 year difference would be the max, but now that I'm older I would say 15 years.

Its more about how you get along with your partner and life experiences. For instance have they been married previously, are their parents still alive, etc.

The biggest age difference I have ever had has been 5 years. That is my current relationship too. My max age difference would be probably 7 years. I think it depends on how the people interact with one another and what you both want from the relationship.

I think it really depends on the people involved. I very recently just started seeing someone who is 24 years older than me. He is 52 and I am 28. We were friends for about two months before we took things to the next level, but we are still taking things very slowly. We connect at a very deep level and spent countless hours just talking and getting to know each other. I realized that my feelings were much stronger than friendship about a month into it, but waited to see how things progressed between us to make a move. I have always been attracted to older men. Before I met him, the biggest age gap I have had in a relationship was just 4 years and that was when I was a teenager. So, in my opinion, if two people share a strong connection and can communicate well with each other, age doesn't matter.
