One Year Anniversary

Have you reached that point yet?

My lady and I will be there next month on the 13th! Woo! I'm pretty excited because we really have had some major downs, but have had some phenomenal ups as well.

I wanted to get a hotel suite with a garden tub for the night so we could have a night to ourselves (since her mother lives with her and I live with roommates) where we could relax in the tub with some drinks. However, my budget won't allow for that anymore so I'm thinking of other ideas.

She's always wanted me to give her a lap dance, so I will definitely do that. I'm just not sure where all of this will take place, haha.

And I want to make us dinner, something really nice and I want to get her a present... I have one in mind, but it depends on the price of it when it gets closer to the date.

What did you do for your One Year Anniversary? Or is yours coming up? What are your plans?

We're really low key and try to find ways to celebrate being together throughout the year too. We've also got a low budget and live with family. What we try to do is steal away for weekends periodically throughout the year to a house his parents bought years ago and was used as a vacation type home for a long time. I know not everybody can do that, but that's what we do. For our recent 1 year anniversary we slept in and enjoyed it, and then spent the day bumming around the mall and hung out with a friend. Ideally I'd love to go on a small vacation, but that whole money thing, lol.

Oh, and congratulations on your upcoming anniversary!

Bumming around the mall might be a good idea! Or maybe we'll finally get to use our AMC gift card that we've had for almost two months now.

And thanks! I'm pretty surprised we've made it thus far considering some things, but I think that's a good sign that we've been able to make it through the first year ditches, lol!

I agree! I would use up that AMC gift card, and then have a fun time making a nice dinner together maybe.

We just had our 1 year anniversary on December 28th =)

We saved a little bit here and a little bit there and was able to spend 3 days at the beach. Hotel cost $60 and we brought our own food so we ended up spending less than $100 on it. The mini vacation was just what we needed after all the heckticness that's been going on lately =)

If I were in your situation, I would make a nice dinner (or make a picnic and go to a park!), then go to a movie. It's the little things!

Congratulations on your 1 year!

Yes, over four months ago. This is longest relationship I've ever had, even more surprising considering it's with a man.

This will be the longest relationship I've had and I'm hoping that it lasts for a very long time.

Our anniversary is the day before Valentine's Day, too, so that will be interesting. Going out to dinner at a restaurant will be HELL. Last year, before we started dating we went out that weekend and waited for almost an hour for a table LOL. Then the next day she asked me to be her girlfriend.

I've been with my husband for nearly 5 years. Been married about 6 months.

Well, I've been married for 31 years now (wow) - and we never really went on a honeymoon.

So for our first anniversary we went camping on a deserted island in the Saco river (Southern Maine) - near his dad's place. We spent most of the time naked...and loved it.

I think it was either our second or our third anniversary when we spent the day doing laundry after visiting a used bookstore and then he surprised me by making me a heart-shaped cake. Basically, he took a square pan and a round pan - cooked the cakes in them and then cut the round one in half and use it to make a heart with the square cake.

I would say I have the best husband in the world - but we "celebrated" our 25th anniversary with a major fight. We'd moved 8 days earlier so I didn't really expect us to do something major. He read most of the day and then left for work at 2 pm....I figured he'd at least take me out for lunch or something. I mean - 25 years - right?

Oh well - that night when he got home - he apologized - and we wound up going to Walmart and buying my computer desk (which I still have and love).

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

We've had anniversaries where we had money and anniversaries where we didn't. But we're still together and I guess that is what really matters.

I agree! What really matters is the fact that even if you have fights, you manage to work past them instead of ignore them and let them fester or you grow into a better couple.

Part of me is terrified that some of the (bad) things I've been doing lately are scaring her away. Life for both of us has been super high stress the last almost two months, and I think that we both seem to have at least gotten through it together is good... She had a death in the family, and extended family that just won't LEAVE her house. I'm having severe financial issues and drama with my living situation... But we've managed to talk through things, and even when I tried to half-ass break up with her on New Year's Day, she wouldn't let me.

-shrugs- I just think that since I've been really selfish and haven't paid much mind to her feelings and desires in the last two to three months, I need to do something very selfless for her for our anniversary.

I was thinking what about a cheaper hotel room? They are usually around 50 for a night, at least you could be alone for a night, you could cook for her and give her a massage.

Congrats on your first year! My husband and I have been together for twelve years and we usually end up just going out to eat or having some fun time to ourselves that night after the little one goes to sleep. Keeping it simple seems to work for us.

Thanks! I try, she sacrifices a lot for me, and I try to do what I can to make her feel appreciated. I spoil the hell out of her :p

What I have decided to do is combine V-day and our anniversary a little bit.

I'm working on writing her a poem about us, how I feel, hopes, etc. Also, where I work we have the most adorable little Valentine mailbox with monkeys all over it and some monkey valentines. I'm going to write on each valentine one thing that I love about her/our relationship and stuff them all in the box along with some of her favorite candy. (Monkeys are her favorite animal).

I will probably fold up the poem and put it in the box as well. Then, I have some fake rose petals and a single chocolate rose that I am going to give to her.

My roommate wants us to surprise both her husband and my girlfriend by setting our table really nicely, scattering some rose petals on it, and putting a nice candle collection on the table and then our gifts for our significant others on the table.
