Personal Ads on Craigslist

Contributor: Tori Rebel Tori Rebel
I'm curious as to what people think about these. I look at them from time to time, despite the fact that I'm not looking for anyone right now, just out of curiosity. I also look at pets and furniture despite the fact I'm not looking for either of those things either

I've seen ones that are simply people looking to pay for sex. Which is fine by me, but not legal here. I've seen a few that look like legitimate personal ads by people looking to find someone without paying for match.com or eharmony. Unfortunately, these seem to get lost amongst the other ones. The ones I find most interesting are the ones where the title is something along the lines of 'Just a normal guy looking for love' and the ad contains a picture of an erection and a phone number.

Have you looked for partners on craigslist or know anyone that has? How did it go? Would you consider it if you're going to be looking for a new partner in the future?

And this is by far, my favorite one (on the humorous side). It's from the Best of Craigslist.

I used to look at them for laughs. Most of them complain that the girls around here are too fat and they want someone 'thin and fun' for a long term relationship. I figure they're in too much denial to admit that all the relationship they really want is with Mother Thumb and Her Four Daughters.

I've quit reading it months ago - it was depressing the hell out of me to see so many shallow aho's advertising the physical traits they want (on top of being crappy spellers and grammar-users). I hope they got the disease they deserved.

True, there are a lot looking for the skinny girls only. I've also noticed that the majority of the men seeking women ads are just looking for sex, which baffles me because there is already a 'casual encounters' section, why not post there? Do they really think that a woman looking for a long term relationship will see their lovely camera phone penis shot and say 'well I THOUGHT I wanted dinners and long walks on the beach but I was wrong...this is the man for me!' LOL. Most of the men seeking women ads, however, are more serious and there are far, far fewer of them. I feel bad for the people trying to use them for legitimate purposes, it seems like there's a lot to go through to find the realistic ads.

I've used it to sell some stuff and buy some stuff too, that's about it. But I do glance at the personals out of curiosity. There are some odd requests and the number of men looking for women is insane!!!

I find that the human race is completely moronic when they're asked to classify something into a correct category - they'll see the first thing that vaguely resembles what they're looking for and go from there.

What's really sad is reading the 'missed connections' section - it's either some goob whining about the end of a relationship from six months ago or a spineless jellyfish who 'really really hopes' that the girl-cashier at 7-11 will read their ad and recognize him out of the hundreds of people she served that day. It's like an Agony Column. (Most entertaining are the ones that start with 'sexy blond in mustang ... ')

(Needless to say, I am NOT going to use Craig's help when looking for my next guy in a few years.)

I had to do a report on the personals once for a psych class. I found this one with a married guy, he wanted an attached gf on the side (gf who was already married or had a bf) to be his sex slave and come to him whenever he called her for sexual encounters. But he wanted her to not tell the bf/hubby what she was doing, likewise the man's wife was not supposed to know.

It was rather repulsing and just plain sad, made me facepalm.

This is just anecdotal evidence, but I have actually heard of many successful Craigslist hookups. More than I would've expected, at least. I think it's worth a try. I would definitely set up a safecall, though.

Well that's good to know! At least it's not all for naught.

My girlfriend and i (we are lesbians) tryed posting a add on craigslist looking for another girl to bring into the bedroom for a bit of fun. We had both never had a 3-way and wanted to try it out. We posted under the W4W but just got a lot of horny guys with nasty pictures or a bunch of girls that just wanted to email back and forth and never really do anything.... needless to say we still havent experienced a 3 sum...... I would def try someplace better than craigslist

I would never go looking for a partner using anything but happenstance meetings. I will never look at personal ads, dating websites, e-harmony or any of that stuff.

I tried Yahoo personals when I was younger and met a few nice guys but nothing more. I've always been more the meet at a bar/grocery store/through friends kind of girl too, but I know a lot of people who have been very successful online. But the 'ick' factor on craigslist just seems way out of control compared to the others.

I look through CL personal ads looking for models from time to time and it's ALWAYS entertaining.

Sometimes I post weird ads in the M4M section, just to see what freaks and weirdos will actually respond. My favorite was the 'roman shower' one... 3 people actually responded and they were actually semi-attractive.

I can't imagine doing this actually...I mean looking for a pet, furniture, car maybe but it seems impossibly desperate and dangerous to me. I do know people who actually use this list to find dates and will sleep with the people they meet but not this kid!

OMG - and see, I knew someone just like that until he said 'no nerds' LOL. Seriously, when the requirements list 'access to an abandoned warehouse' and 'a bedazzler', turn off the computer and walk away.

I looked at the craigslist personal ads on a whim a couple months ago - and most of them were laughably horrendous. But, there was one that caught my interest. He had excellent grammar, perfect spelling and actually sounded like an intelligent, interesting person. Lo and behold, he actually is an intelligent, interesting person and we've been dating just over two months.
I think it's funny that I accidentally found him on craigslist - his was the only ad that caught my interest, and mine was the only response that caught his interest. Fortuitous.

I love love love CL ads. I found some guys buy my house willing to sell goats for a pack of beer. Also, an alcoholic midget with an anger problem that just wanted to party. I even starting my job hooking from CL. Amazing, because amidst all the creeps and low lives there's a vast majority of businessmen with high positions and LOTS of extra money.
