IMO: Anything that is beyond INNOCENT conversation is cheating. Sex(oral, anal, foreplay, etc), discussing sex, touching, kissing, any physical contact, flirting, or seeking emotional support.

It's a big question, and there's no one correct answer to it, but this explanation sounds right to me: everything that involves a third party and is kept a secret from your partner can be treated as cheating.

I agree. My saying is, “how would I feel if my partner did this/that?!?” And “is it something I would have to lie about or keep them from knowing?!?” This seems to work in my favor lol

I'm not sure people can adequately answer the question "how would I feel if my partner did this/that?!". It's hard to explain, but when you imagine a stressful situation, it's one thing, your mind is clear, and you can properly assess it; however, when under real stress, it's totally different. I mean, judging in this way not always works in our favor.

Innocent conversation can lead to cheating. Cheating starts in the mind. Of course some take can take being friendly as flirting too. Too friendly and saying the wrong things can lead to one innocent thing and then another.

Not sure what is meant by emotional support There can be other emotional support needed from job loss, loss of relative, pet. Some even get emotional when lose in a sports game.

Cheating to me means betraying one's SO whether physical or mentally. Having fantasy's to some is considered cheating by back when. Nowadays fantasy's are harmless unless acted upon.

Hello folks…. Thought I might provide my prospective on this question since I think it may be unique or at least in the minority.

I myself separate cheating from a obstacle act. I have never been a jealous guy but I have noticed some things can get me ramped up quick. I can (and have) watch my wife have sex with another and not feel one bit of jealousy- in fact it is the biggest turn on for me to watch her truly enjoy the act of sex. But if a guy were to write her a private letter I would loose it. I have always told her “Your body is yours to enjoy with anyone but your heart only belongs to me”.

I have always believed that love and trust are absolutes in a relationship and sex is something we can and should enjoy to the utmost - if your relationship can do that. I fully agree that my philosophy is not for everyone but if it can work it works really well.

This is a hard question, so I took a little while to think it over. To me, I think that cheating means my partner doing any sexual or otherwise intimate act with someone else. Intimate act doesn't have to be sexual, though, for me I would consider it physical or emotional. If my partner needs emotional support, I don't mind if he seeks it from someone else, because I know that I cannot always be available for emotionally tolling things. If he were to hug someone...I wouldn't care. Kiss or cuddle someone? Then we've got a problem. If he were to take someone out to dinner...there would have to be a strict "we are friends" boundary that has been placed.

You are more of a woman than me! Lol my man even thinks he’s taking another woman to dinner he better have his plot paid in full because that’s where he will be the instant he tells me he’s even considered it. Haha. Plus that’s money for our home and babies lol don’t be spending on some *****! Lmao
Also, am intimate conversation is crossing boundaries in my opinion. That should be with you SO. Thanks for your post! I love seeing all of the different perspectives!

Is it fair to say cheating is doing something your partner didn't want you to or give permission? Are threesome among agreeing couples cheating? How about swinging couples ?

Not saying that we do this though

Is it sexual?
Is it being hidden?
If the answer is yes to either then it’s cheating.

Anything that you feel like you have to hide from or lie about to your partner is considered cheating in my book.

How does your definition of cheating change if your partner states that there will be no more sex in your relationship?

Is it fair to say cheating is doing something your partner didn't want you to or give permission? - I guess, yes, it's cheating.

Are threesome among agreeing couples cheating? How about swinging couples? - The key answer here is that it is done upon an agreement between the partners, so it is not cheating; it's a mutual agreement.

Do you agree?

Well, it depends on the situation.

No more sex in the relationship due to what?
- a health condition?
- a dead relationship?
- other reasons?

That would be a situational determination amongst the couple. If it is due to illness or accident and I was told that I could have my “needs met elsewhere” I couldn’t do it. To me that’s still cheating and that’s like choosing sex over love. Might as well leave the person all together. In my eyes to do that in either of those scenarios would be ruthless and cold.

Now, if it was just that they didn’t want to bang anymore then I’d have to ask why stay in the relationship? I would feel like something is wrong with me and I would be miserable just in the “why” and “what’s wrong with me” thoughts. Of coarse there are so many different things that go into a situation such as that so it’s hard to say for anyone else. I stayed married for 8 years and had sex maybe once a month to every 2 months. And come to find out he cheated with over 16 different females who knows how many times. And I stayed with him and didn’t cheat. So it’s just a matter of comfort and personal level of acceptance.
Cheating is being considered a boyfriend/girlfriend, boyfriend/boyfriend, girlfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, husband/husband, wife/wife, anything that you have to lie about is cheating. Any type of emotional attraction or conversation is even cheating in the eyes of myself and my SO. No judgement on any one else’s desires, situations, circumstances, preferences, everyone has their own journey. ??

My initial thought process was that of yours.
IMO it’s individual circumstances.

If boundaries are crossed it’s cheating. Boundaries must be in place prior to in order for there to be a success or “good” experience. Otherwise everything crumbles. Which imo would anyways. These things just change relationships and it’s on an entirely different level. It isn’t something I could do ever again. It was HELL!

What is “real stress” exactly? If I’m under stress does that mean I can justifiably have sex with someone else?
If I’m running late to work does that mean I can justifiably stop in my way into the office and bang someone on the way?
Fortunately, considering how my partner would feel has worked in my favor. ??

Glad it works for you! Not all people can feel their partners in the same way.

Talking about the feelings that overwhelm you when under stress, I didn't mean it is allowed to go and do what you want - have sex with someone else or bang someone on the way. No!!! I wanted to say that you can't feel the pain your partner may experience to the fullest when you just imagine the situation.

Breaching the trust and confidence of a significant other is a betrayal of sorts, even if it isn’t technically cheating.
