That's a pretty broad question. Are you looking to fly or drive? If drive, where are you driving from? What's your price range, etc. And what are the "obvious" spots? Italy might be an obvious spot for me, but for somebody that has, say, never left the state of Massachusetts Cape Cod might be the obvious choice for them. In short: need more info.

Grab a map, a 'tourist info' booklet and make some daytrips together. This is what we so in the summer....
