After three years together, my boyfriend and I broke up last week. It was not mutual and kind of caught me off guard. So I was wondering, how long was your longest relationship that ended, and did it end mutually, or was it one sided? Just curious...
How long was your longest relationship that ended?

Aw. I'm so sorry for you! Three years is a very long time, especially if it was sudden for you. It's hard to get back into a normal routine and get used to being without someone who you've been with that long. Hard thing to cope with. I wish you the best in recovering and big hugs to you!

My longest relationship is right now -- it'll be 7 years next month. However, my longest one that ended would technically be my little ol' relationship that wasn't really a relationship, but we claimed each other & exchanged gifts and love letters regularly, which lasted for 3 years. LOL. It began when we were in the 5th grade, and strangely enough, as soon as we "offically" became boyfriend and girlfriend, we never talked in person! LOL. We would sit together at school & hold hands, but we would never speak. Ha Ha Ha. Talk about awkward. So we used letters to talk -- millions of them. We were both shy. I ended it in the 7th grade for.. ahem... lack of conversation. Ha Ha. Neither of us weren't shy around the other. We even danced at dances all the time, but never spoke!
Anyways, that was an interesting relationship there. Soon after breaking up, I had me a new boyfriend. One who talked! Lol. The no-talking boyfriend was very kind-hearted and sweet & he still lives in the same area (as do I) today & is still a good, kind person. He ended up finding him a new girlfriend when we got to high school & as far as I know, they're married now! I bet they talk. LOL.
So that was technically the longest besides this one now. I did have more serious relationships after that, but none lasted longer than 2 years. One was 1 year & another like 9 months. Never too long until my current partner.

Serious relationships, or casual? Longest live-in I-love-you serious relationship was ~2 1/2 years.

Three years is not a very long time. It's just getting your feet wet when it comes to long term relationships. I've been married for thirteen years and I still don't consider that "a long time", maybe when we hit the twenty year mark.

I'm sorry to hear that. My longest relationship was 2 years and it did not end well. I've been mostly casual since then.

A year and a half.

Longest relationship that ended was three years. Sorry to hear about your break up, though. Those are never easy, especially when it happens out of the blue.
Something I always try to remind myself of when things like this happen is that people will come and go throughout our lives and each one of them teaches us something, it's incredibly rare to find someone who will stick by you through thick and thin but when you find that person, you'll know and things will turn around before you know it. Just be open to new possibilities and you'll be just fine.

4 years all through high school.

I haven't really had a real relationship end. I've been with my current partner for 7 years this month. There was a short period of time back in high school when we broke up and I dated another man for a month or two.

The longest was an on again, off again that we were actively dating for 15 months over 2 years
04/13/2013
3 years and 9 months.

The longest relationship I had that ended was close to 5 years. It ended mutually because we had a lot of issues and we really wanted different things out of life.
04/13/2013
A year and a half.
04/14/2013
Five years and though it was not a total surprise I couldn't really say what finally made it clear that we needed to end things and I think we could still at some point start again.
04/14/2013
6 and a half years..he was an alcholic and i had had enough
04/14/2013
4 years, and it was all on my end. I felt horrible about it- still do a bit. But he was unmotivated and kind of dragging me down. And we started dating at 18 so I think we grew apart.
