Do you and your significant other sleep apart from each other?

This is assuming that you live with your SO or at least visit them so frequently that you stay at their house or vice versa.

I'm sure my boyfriend and I aren't the only ones that, for one reason or another, don't sleep together. We USED to sleep together and enjoyed it but we also USED to have a real bed. When we got kicked out, we had to live with with his grandmother which is where we are now. We have no choice of a bed that we can both sleep on other than the couch bed. After so many nights of metal bars in our backs, we got fed up with it. I already have back problems and it wasn't helping. So then we switched to one sleeping on the couch and the other sleeping on the floor (taking turns) so that we could at least be in the same room. Now I sleep on the twin bed in the next room and he gets the couch. That is, except for the weekends when a kid comes over to spend time with my boyfriend's grandmother. Then we go back to the previous method. It's lonely when I'm sleeping without him and I definitely don't like it but we both prefer it to the awful sleep we were getting on that horrible excuse for a "bed".

So do you and your significant other sleep in different beds (etc.) for whatever reason?

We sleep together unless one of us has a problem that would make it uncomfortable for the other. Like when Alan first got out of the hospital and was really sore, I slept in the other room so I didn't press against him in my sleep and hurt him.

We sleep together, but she'll get up and sleep on the couch if I'm snoring too loud.

We sleep in separate rooms. I'm a speshul snowflake sleeper and he snores. My sister in law has couples stay over at her house all the time and she said she was surprised at how often they requested separate rooms.

If you have a sleeper/sofa (which it sounds like you do) why don't you put the matress from it on the floor and sleep there? It would probably feel good for your back also. About 10 years ago a couple (they were around 65 years old and had been married for over 40 years and had 4 kids) lived in the same apartment building that we did. I go to know them pretty well and I was floored when the wife told me that they each had separate bedrooms and it had been that way since they wre first married. I vowed that would never be my relationship with my partner/spouse.

I agree with Michelle (Alan and Michelle) that if someone is sick (or whatever) sleeping separately is probably a necessary evil and a very loving thing to do. But on a regular basis? Never. I still don't know how this couple had sex--did they do it and then go to their separate rooms? Did they make appointments? Although I really like both partners, the wife was a bit flakey!!

Go figure.

We have a very small room. I mean VERY small room. When the bed is out, it takes up the whole room. We couldn't just leave the mattress on the floor and I'm not sure we'd have anywhere to put it up during the day. But thank you for the idea.

Well, we live together with another roommate and have our own rooms. I probably sleep in my room 50% of the time.

We sleep together every night. We use to have trouble sleeping together because we had a small bed and whenever one of us tossed and turned it would wake the other one up, but now we got a queen size bed and sleep a lot better.

I have two SOs. When we first moved in together, we shared a twin bed.

That's right, THREE OF US in a twin bed. XD

After about a year? my parents gifted us their old Queen. Three of us in a queen for seven years!

Now we share a king. Woohoo, the luxury! The space! It's amazing!
