Birth Control has killed my sex life!!!

Soooo ladies, I was on BC for a while when, and I noticed that my sex drive has plummeted (not drop but yes plummeted), along with some other unsavory side effects. I am wondering if this is just a my body not liking the hormones or is this normal, and what ideas or other options have you tried to get rid of this. I have stopped the BC, but they are saying at least 6 months or more before the hormones begin to get back to normal. Do you know of a non hormonal BC?

You could try an IUD. They generally have no/low hormone levels, and don't mess with your sex drive usually.

Mirena is a hormonal IUD while Paraguard is non-hormonal. I'm personally terrified of IUDs, I've known too many people who have had them dislodge or who have had ectopic pregnancies with them. There are always barrier methods, such as condoms, cervical caps, diaphragms, or sponges. Or behavioral methods, such as natural family planning and cycle awareness.

My understanding is that IUDs don't cause ectopic pregnancies, but they are so good at preventing pregnancies that if you do get pregnant, it is possible that it is an ectopic pregnancy. Make sense?

But yes, I've heard that bc can cause some serious sex drive side effects. It's not just you.

I was under the impression that IUD's do increase the risk of ectopics, which is the main reason I haven't considered getting one. I've already been through one miscarriage and am afraid of the trauma of having to have an abortion because of an ectopic pregnancy. I think I'll do some more research and decide if an IUD is in fact right for me. I like the fact that it's low in hormones and I don't have to think about it once it's in.

I use nuvaring & love it.. haven't had any issues. It took a little getting used to always having it in there, but it doesn't ever bother me

My wife's on the pill. She has ZERO sex drive. We have sex once every few months. I've pointed this out to our doctor but got no viable answer. I have wondered about getting her to get an IUD but we still want another baby in a year so it's not an option right now. But after that I will press for her to try it.

My brother-in-law's girlfriend uses that. She's a frikin insatiable sex kitten. I'll talk to my wife and see if I can get her to try it. I know sticking her fingers inside of herself isn't something she's cool with but maybe I can get her doctor to encourage her to try it. Would be nice if it's her pills that are killing her drive and after getting off them she turns into a total nympho.

I recently started taking the pill after a 8 month period without any form of hormonal birth control and it sent my body into a spin. I spent 4 days switch every 5 minutes between, happy and energetic, sad and tried and cranky and crazy. My husband told me to stop taking it (it was the only thing that had changed so, that had to be it) after 6 days not taking it, I was back to normal. It really killed my sex drive, so for now we are back with condoms, until I can get in to see my doctor to talk over things.

I had semi low sex drive when I first went on birth control, it lasted about two months. I was pretty young though and my hormones were all over the place which may have been why I bounced back quickly (I was barley 15 when I started birth control). It is possible that your body will react better to different kinds of birth control will effect your body differently, and it might be something you choose to consider if you decide to stick with the pill.

However, I have a IUD, have had it for almost two years, and I am absolutely in love with it. I'm still a crazy sex kitten, it doesn't effect me at all (even though I have the low hormone one), and I have sex twice a day with no pregnancy here!

I am on Levora (pills) and haven't noticed an effect of my sex drive because of it. I have been on this brand for several years.

I know a lot of women have this experience. My sex drive, for the most part, has stayed in tact. I am on a BC with a lower hormone dose, however, and this was something my doctor and I talked about specifically. Maybe look for something that has a lower level of hormones? You could also try and IUD.

We've always used condoms and I decided to try BC at being married and 29 years old. The side effects were awful and although I still had my libido, any penetration at all hurt. I decided not to be a guinea pig and have my hormones bouncing around trying to find the right birth control, we're back to condoms and neither of us really mind because we're just glad to be having everyday sex again!

So I have been off the birth control for a few months, and my hormones are still not back to normal. I am actually starting to somewhat worry because this is taking forever. I will keep you guys informed if something changes. I asked my doctor about some non-hormonal options, but she is a pain in the butt. I am thinking about just geting my tubes tied and being done with it.

My wife tried it for 3 months, years ago. It totally killed her libido. She and I were joking that this is actually how hormonal contraception works. It prevents you from having babies by making you NOT want to have sex.
